Sustainability Manager
Job Introduction
As our new Sustainability Manager you will provide integrated support to all services in understanding sustainability obligations (including higher standards of sustainability that go beyond compliance), planning and implementing initiatives, monitoring and reporting results.
The role will be the lead in all matters relating to Utilities, Energy Resource, Waste and Sustainable Environments. The Sustainability Manager will be required to be knowledgeable, or willing to gain substantial knowledge across all these areas, and will be responsible for developing and reviewing the Energy & Sustainability Strategy in line with both Sodexo’s Better Tomorrow strategy and client targets and action plans.
We offer a salary up to £45,00 dependant on experience, a bonus, flexible benefits scheme and excellend development and progression opportunities.
Role Responsibility
- Understand client strategy, objectives and tactical requirements and how these inform the focus of business intelligence activity.
- Review and manage the delivery of the client’s monthly management information report including environmental, waste and sustainability performance and financial metrics.
- Develop supplier relationship to manage delivery of environmental and sustainability improvements and report on progress made.
- Monitor emerging sustainability related legal compliance as well as Government and industry best practice.
- Applying knowledge and driving best practice to meet sustainable standards
- Communications and reporting to contractors, relating to environmental and sustainability performance and improvements.
- Championing campaigns in partnership with the University of Greenwich to promote student engagement in order to meet the Universities strategic objectives.
- Assist the client with developing and implementing an estate sustainability strategy
- Advise the Partnership Director of potential business risks associated with emerging legislation and recommend solutions
- Consult with subject matter experts throughout Sodexo and suppliers to ensure the contract utilizes the most up to date guidance and codes of practice and communicate clearly and appropriately to staff throughout the contract
- Be the go to person for guidance on all the latest trends, and as such will be expected to dedicate time to research and monitor announcements from key industry bodies, institutions and networks to stay ahead of the curve.
The Ideal Candidate
- Degree in a relevant subject or equivalent qualification by experience.
- Professional membership of relevant institution (e.g. IEMA, CIWM, CIBSE).
- Good understanding of legislative requirements, including SECR, ESOS, European Performance of Buildings Directive (EPCs/DECs/TM44 air conditioning inspections), MEES, Waste Management.
- Experience of Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001) and Energy Management Systems (ISO 50001).
- Ability to undertake on-site and desk-top assessments to identify utility savings.
- Ability to write recommendation reports to suit varying audiences (technical and non-technical).
- Awareness of carbon reporting and accounting.
- Evidence of delivering innovation and engaging positively with continuous change and improvement
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- Relevant professional qualifications (BIFM, CIWM, IEMA)
- Demonstrable experience of working within an ANUK accredited environment
- IOSH or NEBOSH qualifications
- Experience of designing climate change adaptation programmes.
- Experience of sustainable construction.
- Previous engineering experience in an operational maintenance role in a large estate setting with a proven track record of optimising energy and water efficiency.
- CIBSE Low Carbon Consultant or Assessor.
- LEED or BREEAM assessor.
- Financial business case development (MACC, OPEX, CAPEX, NPV).
- Experience of working with or for a Facilities Management organisation.
- Experience of CAFM / CMMS systems.
