Job Description:

As a Steward with Sodexo at Mons Combined Mess, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality food service to military personnel on a Ministry of Defence (MOD) base. Your professionalism, attention to detail, and dedication will ensure that all dining experiences meet the highest standards, both for daily service and special functions. You’ll work closely with the Head Steward/Mess Manager to maintain excellent hygiene, service, and operational standards in the dining room and associated areas.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain high standards of personal hygiene, appearance, and professional conduct suitable for a front-of-house role.

  • Serve all food and beverages to the highest quality and carry out minor food preparation tasks as directed (e.g., preparing condiments).

  • Follow cleaning schedules to ensure all front- and back-of-house areas meet strict cleanliness and hygiene standards.

  • Accurately complete and manage documentation including meal vouchers, 1033 forms, and daily meal sheets.

  • Report any equipment defects or breakages immediately and complete breakage records as required.

  • Assist with function preparations such as silver cleaning, dining room layout, and napkin folding.

  • Comply with COSHH, Food Safety, Health and Safety legislation, and company quality control procedures at all times.


What You’ll Need:

  • Previous experience in a similar hospitality or service role, ideally within a structured or military environment.

  • Basic food hygiene certification or the willingness to obtain it.

  • Training or experience in silver service preferred.

  • Excellent communication skills with a polite and courteous manner.

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including unsociable shifts, and willingness to travel or stay overnight for training as required.

  • Commitment to ongoing personal development and adherence to safety and quality standards
