Job Introduction

HMP & YOI Bronzefield is the largest women’s prison in Europe. This is a unique opportunity to be a part of a dynamic and forward-thinking women’s prison which accommodates a diverse and complex population of women from courts across the South of England.

Bronzefield is a high-paced and complex operational environment that is looking for a Special Educational need coordinator (SENCO) that has experience of a trauma-informed approach to work with woman aged 18+ across the whole estate. This will range Restricted Status women who require the highest levels of security, women on remand (whom are often experiencing custody for the first time), as well as pregnant women and mothers with young babies.

It is estimated that approximately 50% of people in prison in the UK have a neurodiverse condition which in many cases is unidentified until they are detained. To support these individuals, we seek an experience SENCO that has a particular passion and enhanced knowledge around identifying and supporting neurodiversity.

At Bronzefield we are committed to really making a difference and have just invested in a new state of the art sensory room and secured additional budget for new projects for which we would welcome ideas from the successful candidate.

You will support your cases in both 1-2-1 and small group (4-6) sessions through their entire journey from diagnostic assessment to the implementation and monitoring of their support plan.

Leading with passion and by example you will educate staff across the estate on Special Educational Needs, Disability and Neurodiversity to inspire colleagues to continually achieve excellence and ensuring that every prisoner when its time leaves empowered with the ability and desire to learn more.

The standard working hours will be Monday to Thursday 8-5 and Friday 8–1:30 though please note there may be the occasional need to work a full Friday which would be reimbursed.
