As a Sous Chef at Sodexo in Priory Hospital Bristol, Heath House Lane, Stapleton, Bristol, BS16 1EQ, you’ll play a vital role in preparing high-quality meals that support patient wellbeing and enhance the overall dining experience. You’ll be responsible for managing your own section of the kitchen, ensuring every dish meets our high standards. What you’ll do:
Order provisions using Sodexo policy and approved suppliers
Ensure cleanliness and maintenance of kitchen and food service areas; report and follow up on issues
Pass internal and external audits (e.g., Safeguard, EHO, Priory)
Lead and manage the team to drive service excellence and quality
Train staff using Sodexo GREAT cards, induction, Priory training, and competency checks
Complete weekly rotas on time and manage labour within budget
Fulfil all reasonable requests from line manager promptly
Handle HR issues in line with training
Manage and respond to emails professionally and promptly
Ensure KRONOS labour system supports business needs
Ensure staff deliver quality service per work schedules and procedures
Liaise with dietary specialists to enhance patient dining
Ensure compliance with food safety and health & safety legislation
Communicate effectively with hospital stakeholders and act within area of responsibility
Apply H&S standards across all staff, including agency and new employees
Investigate and report accidents thoroughly and on time
Implement and maintain all statutory and company policies; ensure staff compliance
Monitor and achieve high client and patient satisfaction
Build positive relationships across company and client organisations
Conduct visual audits and coordinate with Facilities Manager for maintenance
Ensure all equipment is safe, regularly checked, and secured when not in use
Manage recruitment fairly; minimise vacancies to maintain service and control labour costs
Handle staff issues (conduct, performance, absence, etc.) per HR policies
Ensure all mandatory training is completed and training plans followed
Promote the CARES programme to uphold high customer service standards

What you bring:
- NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) and at least 2 years’ experience as a chef
- Strong culinary skills and a genuine passion for cooking
- Ability to perform well under pressure in a busy kitchen
- Clear, respectful communication and a strong team spirit
