Job Introduction
The Role
We are seeking a talented Sous Chef to join our team at Magdalen College School, Oxford. You will act as leader and coach to the Kitchen team. Driving their results through nurturing and monitoring of their performance while making MCS Oxford a friendly and inviting place to work.

Contract Type: Permanent
Shift Pattern: 5 out of 7days
Hours: 40 hours per week
Rate of Pay: £16.83 per hour
What You’ll Be Doing
Assisting the Head Chef in the core production of daily meals and hospitality service of food within all areas under Sodexo Management. Ensure compliance in all areas of Food Safety, Health and Safety within the department.
- Compile Allergen Matrix and ingredients lists for all dishes produced within the unit Daily.
- Work with FOH Supervisor to plan Special Diets Meal plans for our most at risk students
- Maintain accurate records of Temperature Monitoring
- Manage Kitchen Teams Production levels and timings.
- Oversee lunch service maintaining food levels on counters
- Revise Production numbers throughout the day and week to minimise waste
- Working with the Head Chef and Stores Manager to manage stock levels.
- Ensure that legal and company regulations regarding hygiene, health and safety are complied with.
- Ensure all compliant training is updated and support in delivering of training to the team.
- To undertake occasional duties outside the normal routine but within the scope of the department’s activities.
- Promote a good company image to customers and guests and use positive customer service practices.
- Assist with the monitoring of production and wastage.
- To take full responsibility for kitchen staff and food production across all services when the Head Chef is absent.
What You’ll Bring
Essential
- NVQ level 2 Food Production certificate or equivalent
- Intermediate Food Hygiene certificate
- IOSH Managing Safely
- Strong level of literacy and numeracy
- Experienced Chef who has operated in a busy, client facing environment
- Good communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to be an effective team player
- Flexible, with the ability to work under pressure and across a range of shifts and service times
- Direct management experience of chefs / kitchen brigade
- Clear, strong and effective leadership style
- Strong ability to increase individuals’ effectiveness through leadership, motivation, communication, coaching and training
- Excellent time management and organisational skills
- Ability to set and maintain standards
Desirable
- Ability to review problems analytically, develop opportunities and implement innovative solutions / approaches
- PC literate
- Advanced Food Safety or Health and Safety qualification
