Senior Prison Custody Officer (SPCO) - HMP Lowdham Grange
Job Introduction
The role of Senior Prison Custody Officer is essential to the effective running of our establishment. Senior Prison Custody Officers are the most accessible and first line of leadership and support to our staff. Senior Prison Custody Officers keep our regime running, lead and ensure staff are supported, ensure that the prisoners are well looked after; and coordinate ground floor activities during normal regime and during incidents.

- Starting every shift with three checks for safety and actively driving a culture of safety
- Doing the right thing and owning your own performance
- Looking after your staff by meeting regularly with them and ensuring that they feel confident in their role and the tasks they are undertaking
- Looking after your team by ensuring they are working together with a common purpose and that all team members feel equal, safe and valued
- Development your team via coaching, mentoring and PDR process
- Ensuring that your team are supporting residents appropriately with their day to day and longer term needs
- Fully committing to the delivery of our business plan and local objectives
- Fully committing to the delivery of standards, that your staff understand them and that assurance of those standards is completed as required
- Being open to change and development, be that your own, your staffs’ or the prison overall
- Being an active member of the leadership team, working with and supporting your peers and other managers

The Ideal Candidate
Essential experience required:
- Current badged PCO
- Ability to make sound operational decisions
- Excellent IT, organisation and planning skills
- Good communication skills
- Proven track record in maintaining high attendance levels
- Flexibility
Desirable experience required:
- Experience of managing people
- Experience of coaching staff
- Ability to juggle conflicting demands
