Probation Services Officer/Responsible Officers VQ3 - Advertised on behalf of South Yorkshire CRC

Job Introduction

As part of South Yorkshire Community Rehabilitation Company’s (SYCRC) workforce planning assumptions, we are seeking to recruit up to 20 PSO/Responsible Officers VQ3. Candidates considered appointable will be placed on a list for the next 12 months and appointed to the company as vacancies arise.

These will be varied roles and once in post the successful candidates may deployed to work in any of SYCRC locations across South Yorkshire.

SYCRC has one principle task which is to reduce reoffending and make our communities safer. As a PSO/RO it will be your job to make sure Service Users are well supported throughout their sentence or licence.

Sodexo Justice Services delivers custodial and community rehabilitation services that challenge offending behaviour, protect the public and offer individuals the opportunity to change their lives for the better. We deliver the total operation of five prisons within England, Scotland and Wales and own six Community Rehabilitation Companies in partnership with crime reduction charity NACRO.

DBS and MOJ clearance will be required for this position.

Role Responsibility

As a PSO/RO, you will work directly with service users - managing, supervising and enforcing Court Orders and post custody licence periods. You will assess the risk service users pose to the public, identify their needs to achieve community reintegration, monitor their progress and help them to achieve successful completion of court orders and post custodial supervision periods.

The ability to form constructive, appropriate relationships and motivate people to change, often in the face of setbacks, is critical. The work also involves producing a range of documentation to a high standard and liaison with specialist agencies. You will coordinate activities with other functions and agencies, who are delivering work to reduce service users re-offending.

There is an expectation that operational staff work some evenings and weekends to enable offenders to be supervised without jeopardising their employment.

The Ideal Candidate

You will be required to demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, sound judgement, and an ability to resolve complex problems. Experience of working with service users is beneficial, along with the ability to be assertive when necessary and be resilient when faced with challenging behaviour and competing demands.

IT skills are essential, as the successful candidates will use a range of IT packages to keep records, make assessments and manage risk. It will be a condition of the successful candidate’s offers of employment that you complete VQ4 qualification in Community Rehabilitation (QCF) within the first 12 months of your employment with SYCRC.

Salary £22,039 - £27,373 per annum dependent on experience
