Job Introduction

Porters play an invaluable role in supporting the day-to-day running of the hospital, delivering a quality portering service to all patients, staff (medical and non-medical) and visitors to the hospital. This is a great opportunity for a customer focused individual to join a world leading food and facilities management company.

 

Role Responsibility

  • Maintain clean and safe equipment and environment in accordance with the specification and be responsive to service needs as they arise and constantly seek to improve the productivity and quality of the service
  • Undertake necessary duties to ensure maintenance of an efficient Portering Service as directed. These duties will be carried out both in patient and non-patient environments
  • All work must be undertaken in line with health, safety, security and Company and Trust policies and procedures including infection control.
  • When required, you may need to assist with the emergency and evacuation procedures and security situations in accordance with Trust policy
  • To transfer patients in a safe and appropriate manner to and from the wards and departments via means of walking, wheelchair, trolley, or beds
  • Attend medical emergencies including cardiac arrests with the resus trolley / bag
  • Collection and safe removal and, where appropriate, the recording of non-clinical and clinical waste within your area of work, in line with Company procedures and Trust policy
  • Assist Sodexo and the Trust in running an effective waste recycling and waste minimisation system, including shredding when required
  • Ensure wheelchairs and trolleys are kept clean and ensure safe practice to minimise the risks of infection to patients and staff in accordance with national and Trust policy, in particular to be aware of their responsibilities as listed in the Infection Control Policy
  • Ensure the cleanliness of the Porters lodge at all times
  • Ensure the cleanliness of the waste areas at all times
  • Maintain a clean, neat and tidy appearance, complying with Company and Trust uniform and hand care guidelines and high standards of personal hygiene

Essential Information

  • PPE - All Workers will be required to wear all required PPE including Face Masks and will undertake a Face Fit Test prior to commencing any work at UWE Nightingale.
  • No facial hair (this is required to enable the Face Masks to fit correctly)
  • No jewellery of any type - including any facial or nose piercings.
  • No Mobile phones are permitted within the Nightingale facility – These can be in kept in an individual locker.
  • Hair - Must be tied back up off shoulders.
  • All Workers will be required to shower on site at end of shift and towels will be provided.
  • Shoes – Workers must ensure their shoes are flat, sensible, fully enclosed and fully wipeable (no trainers or canvas shoes) - this is the only item that is personnel they will wear in nightingale and will be cleaned at end shift before exiting the site.
  • Personal Items – Individual lockers are available to hold essential personal items e.g. keys, purse, mobile phone, etc. Mobile Phones are not permitted within the Nightingale Facility.
  • Welfare - Food can be purchased at the on-site welfare facility. Workers can choose to bring their food but must be stored in their locker. No eating including gum/ mints in the Nightingale facility.

Induction & Face Fit Testing

All workers are required to undertake a face fit test for PPE and Induction on the same day.

Please do not eat for at least 60mins before arriving and do not drink anything and avoid caffeinated drinks for at least 30 mins before arriving as these factors may result in Face Fit Test Failure.
