Maintenance Plumber – HMP Altcourse
About the Role
We are currently seeking a skilled and dedicated Maintenance Plumber to join our Justice Services Facilities team at HMP Altcourse. In this vital role, you will use your trade expertise to carry out installation, testing, inspection, and maintenance of plumbing systems across the prison estate. You will play a key part in ensuring the facility operates safely, efficiently, and in line with statutory and company standards.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out repairs and preventative maintenance to all gas, hot, and cold water systems within the establishment.
Perform scheduled maintenance on plumbing systems and fixtures, ensuring all work meets relevant trade and compliance standards.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair work, reporting any defects or non-compliance.
Support and escort specialist contractors as required, ensuring safe and secure working practices.
Respond to out-of-hours emergencies on a rota basis.
Uphold all Health & Safety and Environmental Protection requirements in line with Sodexo policies and procedures.
Work collaboratively with colleagues and allied trades to support efficient facilities management operations within the prison.
About You
To succeed in this role, you’ll need to demonstrate:
A recognised plumbing apprenticeship and relevant trade qualifications (Gas Safe registration preferred).
A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role, ideally within a facilities management or custodial environment.
Strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation and safe systems of work.
A proactive and systematic approach, with excellent attention to detail.
The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to ensure professional interactions with staff, contractors, and visitors.
Experience working with bulk catering equipment or large-scale plumbing systems will be an advantage.
