Operations & Maintenance (OM) Manager
Job Introduction
We have a really interesting opportunity to join our Estates team at one of our flagship Healthcare sites, the Manchester Royal Infirmary (MRI) as the Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Manager. The MRI consists of over 80 building all with unique and multifaceted maintenance needs and you’ll be accountable for assuring all Planned, Corrective and Reactive maintenance requirements are enabled through effectively managing the resources of the skilled onsite team, made up of approximately 80 engineers and 60 sub-contractors. You’ll work to time and quality standards and ensure all contractual obligations are achieved.
You’ll work collaboratively with the Asset, Lifecycle, Compliance and Commercial Managers and be able to build strong working relationships with colleagues and NHS stakeholders. You’ll assure your team has the HTM Appointed, Authorised and Responsible Persons certifications in place, appointments are maintained and that Authorising Engineer’s Audits and Action Plans are successfully achieved.
Reporting into the Head of Estates you’ll have a team of ten direct reports; brilliant leadership and team management along with the ability to identify and close skills gaps through mentoring, training and succession planning therefore essential to your success.
This is an exciting and dynamic role which would suit a highly organised, ambitious and collaborative Operations & Maintenance (OM) Manager, with experience of working within a PFI contract. You’ll be able to further develop your leadership and technical skills in a fast-paced healthcare environment and make a real impact to the lives of those using the MRI.
Role Responsibility
- Create, establish and enable Internal Governance procedures offering the efficient management of cost value reports
- Manage the department strategic O&M Risk Management detail and ensure that the company Legal position is protected using in depth understanding and experience of contractual, commercial, insurance and legal processes
- Working collaboratively with the Finance Manager, ensure the department budgets & cash flows are managed and controlled in strict accordance with the contract obligations and achieve savings where possible. Identify, manage, reduce and drive out unnecessary costs and inefficient activities
- Develop Learning and Development training programs by working closely with all Authorized Persons, Competent Persons and Authorizing Engineers
- Work with the Performance & Compliance Manager to assure governance with all Authorizing Engineers, Authorised Persons and Competent Persons registers assuring all training and certifications are up to date and contractually achieved
- Work collaboratively to develop technology driven processes, which support self-delivery wherever possible, and enable better ways of working with dashboard reports on engineering compliance
The Ideal Candidate
- Degree (or equivalent) qualified in an Engineering discipline with desire to continue your professional development through external and internal courses
- HTM Authorized Persons qualifications and appointments with extensive PFI & Healthcare Estates experience with the ability to collaborate and manage stakeholder conversations in a complex PFI environment
- Proven experience understanding dynamic and scientific engineering detail and the ability to generate and create succinct and detailed reports
- Experience in self-managing or high risk lone working activity with Health and Safety at the heart of everything you do
- Exceptional leadership, people management and mentoring with great verbal and written communication skills
- Overall understanding of Healthcare Engineering systems and operational profiles with the flexibility to meet the demands of a large PFI Acute Healthcare Estate
- Computer literate preferably with knowledge of building management systems and automated digital systems.
- Confident and logical under pressure and able to adapt to changing priorities

Up to £60,000pa + excellent bonus and benefits package
