Muslim Chaplain - part time, 8 hours per week

Job Introduction

We are currently seeking to recruit a Muslim Chaplain at HMP Forest Bank on an 8 Hours per week contract.

Role Responsibility

Sodexo Justice Services Chaplains are committed to proclaiming the love of God and serving the needs of prisoners and staff by encouraging and nurturing religious faith and practice within the prison. We aim to work together to create an ordered and caring community where individuals can discover and practice their religion and develop and strengthen appropriate links with their family and Faith communities.

You will be required to be part of an ecumenical, multi-faith chaplaincy team sharing responsibility for the care and support of prisoners and prison staff, making appropriate links with prisoners’ families. You will primarily work with and support those of the Muslim Faith, leading Muslim prayers and teaching the Faith. It will be expected of you to take on when necessary     appropriate generic chaplaincy duties including applications, new receptions, visiting prisoners in CSU and in the Healthcare Centre. You will attend Chaplaincy meetings and represent Sodexo Justice Service to the Muslim Community by encouraging the Faith community outside the prison to take an active interest in the rehabilitation of prisoners.  You will also help prisoners prepare for release and work with other chaplains recognising and respecting the integrity of other faiths and promoting peace and co-operation.  We can offer you a challenging and satisfying career if you share our vision of the substantial work that can be done to reduce the risks of re-offending and want to improve prisoners’ opportunities and outlook.

The Ideal Candidate

We are seeking a part-time Muslim chaplain, giving particular emphasis to maintaining family links and providing spiritual guidance to Muslim prisoners. We invite applications from Imams to join the multi-faith, ecumenical chaplaincy team to ensure that the diverse religious and spiritual needs of the prison community are met. We are looking for a highly motivated, inspirational person who will be able to provide spiritual care for prisoners, their families and staff not only of the Muslim Faith but of all Faiths and none. Applicants will need to be excellent listeners and communicators, and have a non-judgemental, calm and confident approach.

Package Description

£14.92 per hour for 8 hours per week
