Multi-Skilled Engineer (Building Fabric)

Job Introduction

  • Undertake maintenance and reactive activity to a wide range of Building Services equipment including but not limited to, general lighting, emg light testing, replacing tubes/lights, fabric repairs, doors adjustments, painting and decorating, plastering and joinery, putting up notice boards, plumbing works, leaks, repairs to pipwork.
  • Be an essential part of the local team who will ensure the safe operation and repair of all M&E building services and fabric equipment on the site.
  • Take part in a rota to provide a reactive maintenance service outside operating hours of the site.
  • To work with other engineers to provide a core presence at client sites within an extended weekday period.
  • To undertake weekend/out of hours working to complete intrusive maintenance activites that cannot be undertaken in client operating hours.
  • Working in line with the Permit to Work System.
  • To implement systems that will ensure plant is maintained and operated to its optimum efficiency.
  • Participate in departmental energy saving schemes and promote the understanding and importance of the economic use of energy.
  • Take part in Appraisals/Performance Reviews including the recognition of training and development needs.
  • Monitor site performance of sub-contractors and report poor performance.
  • All H&S requirements are undertaken.
  • Reports completed and handheld device updates are to a high standard and contain all required information.
  • Positive feedback from the management team and other key stakeholders.

Role Responsibility

  • Undertake all allocated tasks and perform them in a timely and professional manner.
  • Undertake within your levels of competency (training will be provided were required), inspection and reactive activity wide range of Mechanical/Elecrical Building Services equipment and building fabric including but not limited to heating boilers, pumps, fire alarms, compressed air systems, sanitary ware, fan coil and air handling units and and other equipment found in modern commercial/industrial premises.
  • Undertake training and appointment as an AP/CP in appropriate disciplines.
  • Carry out routine (but not limited to) building fabric repairs, including painting and carpets, furniture and fittings.
  • To diagnose faults on equipment and repair as necessary using manufacturers manuals and drawings as required.
  • To provide the necessary support to enable apprentices to be instructed in all aspects of engineering and building services.
  • To pass on skills and knowledge to new engineering employees
  • To interret technical schematics and drawings and utilise this information to perform planned preventative maintanace, rectification of faults and intsalltion of new equipment.
  • To clearly identify and record concise details of test results and actions taken when rectifying breakdowns/remiedial works and further actions to eliniate or minimise future problems. Ensuring that these records are always kept accurate and up to date
  • Undertake surveys of engineering/building fabric as directed.
  • Supervising/monitoring/escorting of subcontractors
  • Involvement with life cycle replacement of building fabric replacement
  • Be proactive to identify and report faults with building services equipment and take steps to resolve.
  • Be proactive to ensure all H&S issues are reported/escalated as required.
  • Maintain informal communications with Client staff members related to service levels and issues.
  • Report service affecting issued to the site management team for formal communication with the client
  • Remain flexible with regards to site attendance and tasks undertaken within personal competency.
  • Be fully aware of relevant Health and Safety and general legislative matters.
  • Assume responsibility for ensuring compliance with all relevant Health and Safety legislation and site-specific health, safety, and welfare policies.
  • You must ensure that you do not act in any way that endangers your health and safety or that of others. Failure to comply with the requirements of this clause may result in disciplinary action being taken against you, which may include your dismissal or notice.
  • All accidents and unsafe situations must be reported immediately, and accidents recorded in the Accident Book.
  • If we give you safety equipment, protective clothing or footwear you must use it. Clothing and overalls must be kept clean.
  • Carry out routine, reactive and ppm tasks for plumbing tasks
  • Carry out routine (but not limited to) building fabric repairs, including painting and carpets, furniture and fittings.
  • You must attend health and safety training as instructed by your manager to ensure that risks in the workplace are reduced.
  • Provide cover to other operational sites within the contract as and when required.
  • Maintain and manage critical spares on site

The Ideal Candidate

  • 5 years experience as building fabric technician or similar role
  • Completed a recognised apprenticeship/training
  • Minimum C&G / NVQ qualification in relevant discipline
  • IOSH passport and CSCS card
  • Previous appointment as AP/CP for one or more of the following disciplines, LV, Confined Spaces, Working at Heights (preferred)
  • Experience of Construction Design Management Regulations (CDM). (Preferred)
  • Experience of working with HVAC Systems (preferred)
  • Legionella awareness (preferred)
  • Excellent communications both written and verbal.
  • Numerate and computer literate.
  • Strong sense of client focus
  • Working knowledge of H & S. Working knowledge of relevant current legislation and guidance
  • Personal presentation must be of a high professional standard
  • Prioritizing own workload and working under own initiative with minimal supervision.
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to organise others.
  • The ability to listen to others understand and interpret their views
  • Must hold UK driving licence
  • Proof of eligibility to work in UK

 

  • Training may be required to undertake certain aspects of the role
  • Flexibility will be required to support other buildings and changes within the contracted adidas estate
  • Travel will be required to attend other sites; the pool van can be used between the team of engineers to transport equipment/tools between adidas locations.
  • Any other duties, which may be requested by the Hard Sevcies Manager/Account Managers, to facilitate the smooth running of the department.
