As Mechanical and Electrical Apprentice at Sodexo, we’re looking for someone who keeps things running smoothly—the one who knows how to solve problems, offer expert advice, and ensure the hospital estate operates at its best. As a Mechanical and Electrical Apprentice at Royal Stoke Hospital Hospital, you'll be the go-to expert for technical support and maintenance across equipment, building systems, and utility services.

What You’ll Do:

  • This is a multi- disciplinary role in health care maintenance, you will be working towards Authorised/ Competent person status.
  • Ensure the safe operation and maintenance of plant, equipment, and systems across the hospital estate.
  • You will be fully trained in fault diagnosis, repain and testing of electrical and and mechanical systems
  • Carry out repairs, installations, and testing to a high standard, with a focus on complex systems such as Door/ Access controls, nurse call systems, BMS, Security Cameras, Emergency lighting, and Medical Gas Systems and Medical Devices, Ventilation medical gasses..
  • Comply with all health and safety, hygiene, and statutory regulations, including COSHH and fire safety.
  • Promote and maintain a safe, clean, and efficient environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Conduct Planned, Preventative maintenance and calibrate testing tools
  • Assist with parts procurement and technical support
  • Manage reactive maintenance, day and night
  • Use IT systems, for Data Reporting e.g. CAFM, BMS
  • Interpret technical documents and complete regulatory applications
  • Maintain decontamination and water safety equipment, following safety standards

What You Bring:

  • Must have Grade A-C in English and Maths
  • Proven interest in the engineering industry
  • Confident, capable individual able to assess situations
  • Self-motivated and adaptable to changing priorities
  • Enthusiastic with problem-solving skills using a logical approach
  • Calm and logical under pressure, understanding urgency
  • Willing to work overtime if required
  • Attend external and internal training courses as needed
  • Good understanding of Health and Safety standards
  • Strong reporting and communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Computer literate with good mathematical skills

Desirable:  

  • Relevant experience in maintenance/engineering
  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting
  • Demonstrates self-motivation and drive
  • Knowledge relevant to healthcare environment
  • Solid fault-finding, problem-solving, and technical repair skills
  • Ability to read technical drawings and diagnose issues.
  • Excellent time management, teamwork, and communication
  • A positive, initiative-taking approach—able to work independently or as part of a team.
