Job Title: Maintenance Operative (Grounds)
Location: HMP Forest Bank

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Maintenance Operative (Grounds) to join our Facilities team at HMP Forest Bank. This role involves carrying out gardening, landscaping, and grounds maintenance to ensure the prison environment remains safe, secure, and visually appealing for staff, visitors, and residents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform gardening and landscaping duties inside and outside the establishment to maintain neat, tidy, and safe grounds.

  • Ensure all grounds maintenance activities are completed efficiently, safely, and in line with good practice and current legislation.

  • Manage and adhere to tool control and management procedures according to the Local Security Strategy.

  • Promptly remove large waste items from residential areas, coordinating with gate staff to facilitate efficient waste access and egress.

  • Undertake project work as directed by the Technical Facilities Manager.

  • Supervise prisoner working parties when required.

  • Work collaboratively with other team members and departments, ensuring clear communication and adherence to Health and Safety policies.

  • Contribute to the effective operation of the prison by following all Sodexo policies and procedures.

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.

  • Positive and proactive attitude towards Health and Safety and task management.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet deadlines and maintain high standards.

  • Experience or background in grounds maintenance or gardening is highly desirable.

  • Efficiency, discretion, and reliability are essential.

  • Willingness to assist other trades within the establishment when necessary.
