Laboratory Support Technician

Role Responsibility

As a Laboratory Support Technician you will be responsible for:

  • Preparing reagents and other material for use by scientific staff
  • Performing in-laboratory tasks to agreed work instructions
  • Routine calibration and verification of laboratory instruments
  • Operating to approved quality standards including completion of documentation (e.g. GMP)

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate for this role will have:

  • Interest in science with an A-C grade in a science subject at GCSE and the equivalent in Maths and English or An A level in a science subject is preferred.
  • To demonstrate strong team working skills
  • A high level of personal presentation and will have a flexible approach to the working environment and may be asked to provide cover in other buildings and disciplines as required
  • A clean drivers license is required and experience and ability in manual handling
  • Awareness of Health and Safety and Hygiene regulations, experience in operating a fork lift, and working in a hazardous environment with gas/chemicals (advantageous )
  • Good customer service skills
  • Good communication skills – written and verbal
  • The ability to demonstrate great team work
  • To be IT literate
  • Awareness of Health and Safety

Package Description

The Lab Support Team Member will be responsible for the provision of services to support the laboratory areas within Reckitt Benckiser in Hull. This role will include, but is not limited to the duties as outlined below.

Removal of samples from the stability ovens and delivery to laboratories. Initiation and discontinuation of stability samples. Management of the stability database. Labelling of samples at the request of the laboratory teams.

Cleaning of GMP areas, equipment, pallets to agreed standard.

Daily collection and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous solvent waste from labs. Daily collection and disposal of contaminated and non-contaminated sharps and glass waste.

Back-up for cleaning of laboratory glassware and restocking of cupboards with clean glassware. Back-up for media preparation in the microbiology lab.

Daily and weekly replenishment of satellite stores with solvents, chemicals and laboratory consumables. Parcel deliveries to and from the post room offices/labs. Daily and weekly transportation of consumables for lab stores to laboratories.

To provide support and data gathering/input for the Global Referencing System as required.

The Lab Support Team Member will be required to work flexibly, to encompass any urgent or unanticipated needs arising for increase or decrease in plant production schedules.

The Lab Support Team Member will be required to work felxibly and provide support to other Sodexo service groups when required.

Hours of work are 08:00 - 16:00 with 30mins unpaid break, working 37.5hrs p/week, Mon- Fri.

GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) training will be provided as will full orientation and training for all other duties.

It must be stressed that this role is NOT for a lab analyst and does not include any lab scientific work. The role will be to support the lab scientists and lab functions. Pease do not apply if you are expecting to be conducting scientific experemints, product testing etc.
