Job Introduction

HMP Northumberland are looking to recruit an L&D Business Partner to partner the Custody team, by ensuring the centralised Centre of Excellence supports the delivery of on-site services.  Developing the Justice learning and development (L&D) offer to meet the evolving needs of our services to ensure the best possible outcomes for residents and service users. You will drive the development and delivery of Justice wide L&D strategic initiatives and solutions, to maximise business and people performance and strategic change.

HMP Northumberland offers a variety of initiatives and programmes to help residents engage within the prison’s rehabilitative culture. This includes various educational and vocational qualifications, as well as a variety of opportunities for residents to learn new skills within our workshops and industries departments. We have textile, engineering and electrical workshops and can offer prisoners experience in horticulture, market gardens, cleaning, waste management and laundry services on site.

Being over 4 miles in circumference, the prison is a vast space with exceptionally kept plantation and currently houses over 1300 residents with a range of sentence terms.

Role Responsibility

  • Advising the business on suitable learning solutions which will drive organisational performance
  • Developing the Justice L&D offer to meet the evolving needs of our services to ensure the best possible outcomes for residents and service users.
  • Actively driving the Justice L&D strategic planning process
  • Drive consistent standards, training plans and outcomes across Justice sites
  • Centralise activities to provide efficiencies, reducing duplication of effort and leverage economies of scale
  • Oversee the ongoing development of the ITC and Custody & Detention Apprenticeship standards to ensure the best possible learning experience
  • Ensuring learning outcomes from inspections, audits, inquests, Tribunals and complex ER cases are embedded into existing development processes and curriculums driving behavioural change and improved knowledge as required

The Ideal Candidate

Essential

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent CIPD qualification or qualified by experience
  • L&D Manager/BP generalist experience and detailed understanding of L&D Management including training needs analysis, performance management, program design and embedding a culture of learning
  • Proven track record of understanding key drivers in a relevant business area and working with managers to measurably improve L&D practices
  • Strong consulting skills including organisational diagnosis, planning, project and change management
  • Strong analytical skills with excellent application of MS excel skills
  • Professional and commercial acumen, with strong senior level influencing and stakeholder management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, communications and presentation skills
  • Well organised and responsive; able to work under pressure and work across multiple projects with multiple stakeholders
  • Excellent customer and relationship management skills, including credibility and influence at senior levels
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office programmes

 

Desirable

  • Facilitating teams to achieve defined outcomes 
  • Exposure to shared service centre environment
  • Appreciation of L&D Systems, such as Ingenium

Package Description

Salary circa £45,000 + 10% bonus
