We’re looking for experienced and passionate Prison Custody Officers (PCO) to join us in shaping a dynamic new era at HMP Forest Bank. Whether you're currently working in HMPPS or another custodial setting, this is an opportunity to play a key role in building a positive, safe and supportive prison environment - right from the start.

Your Role as an Experienced Officer

As a seasoned PCO, your knowledge and calm professionalism will help maintain order, safety and positive engagement within the prison. You’ll also be a role model and mentor to newly recruited officers who are just beginning their journey in custody.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Using your custodial experience to supervise and support daily prisoner activities, maintaining order and accountability.
  • Acting as a Key Worker, supporting rehabilitation through positive relationships and consistent guidance.
  • Responding confidently and effectively to incidents, applying sound judgment and control.
  • Writing accurate, objective reports that help inform decisions and support prisoner progress.
  • Taking part in rehabilitative workshops and programmes, reinforcing change and positive behaviour.
  • Supporting and mentoring new colleagues as they learn the role and culture. 

What We're Looking For:

  • Significant experience as a Prison Custody Officer, ideally within HMPPS or a similar environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills - able to stay professional and composed under pressure.
  • A natural mentor who enjoys supporting and developing others.
  • Confidence in challenging inappropriate behaviour and setting clear boundaries.
  • Committed to upholding safety, fairness and high standards of conduct.
  • A proactive, team-oriented individual who leads by example.
