Horticulture Instructor - Custodial Teaching (6m contract)

A new opportunity to supervise a team of Offenders in managing and maintaining land based areas within the Prison grounds.

 

You’ll be developing and nurturing the fauna and foliage within the prison grounds, keeping land based areas tidy and attractive, developing the gardening and horticultural skills and knowledge of a specific cohort of prisoners.

 

You will be able to gain accreditations for Prisoners in Horticulture and embed employability and Functional skills into their learning programme.

Role Responsibility

Design and deliver training in Horticulture that will engage and motivate learners to have an interest in out door work within the prison environment and on release.

Ensure that the learners also improve their own levels in English and Maths.

Include aspects of employability in the learning programme.

Supervise and instruct working groups of up to 15 prisoners.

Be able to progress learners who may have different levels of ability and starting points.

Work with and on the guidance of the Internal Verfier to ensure that standards are maintained.

Be able to develop own materials for instruction.

Assess practical and written evidence to the standards dictated by the awarding body.

Be able to develop learning plans and keep learning records.

Undertake regular course evaluations.

There will be a strong focus on all aspects of equal opportunities and diversity throughout the delivery and in all dealings with staff or prisoners

The Ideal Candidate

Essential

  • A relevant qualification in Horticulture at level three or above
  • Proven experience of Teaching, Tutoring, Training and or Faciliatioon
  • Highly organised.
  • Self motivated
  • Able to comply with the prison security arrangements and the data protection act..

Desirable:

  • A1 asssessor award
  • PTLLS teaching qualification or above.
  • Experience of working with similar client groups either in custody or in the community.
