Healthcare Assistant

Job Introduction

HMP/YOI Bronzefield are recruiting for a Healthcare Assistant to work within a primary healthcare team, to deliver a comprehensive range of needs based health care services to adult and young offenders residing within HMP/YOI Bronzefield.  This involves providing care by working a range of day shifts . If you have experience as a Healthcare Assistant and work well as part of a busy team, this could be a great opportunity for you.

HMP/YOI Bronzefield is a closed local prison serving courts across the South of England. Our mission is to deliver quality of life services which make a meaningful difference to women in the criminal justice system by supporting them to change their lives for the better. To achieve this we focus on providing needs-based services and programmes to rehabilitate and improve the well-being of our women. 

We house up to 572 women (approximately 14.5% of the national female prison population). The women in our custody have a diverse and complex set of needs and range from mothers and babies, young offenders, life and long term sentenced women, short to mid-term sentenced women, foreign nationals and women on remand.

Role Responsibility

  • Help to run nurse clinics, GP surgeries and nurse triage clinics under supervision 

  • Assist with Health Promotion work as led by qualified staff 

  • Assist with nursing care for residents admitted to the inpatient healthcare unit under the supervision of the qualified staff. This to include recording of observations. 

  • Maintaining a high standard of hygiene in the clinical rooms and treatment areas. 

  • Helping residents make the best use if services available 

  • Assisting qualified staff with the dispensing of medication when required 

  • Providing first aid in emergency situations whilst awaiting the support of qualified staff 

  • Fulfilling other duties as required by the larger Healthcare Team 

  • Completed observations, withdrawal scales and assess patient’s experiencing substance withdrawals. 

  • The ability to solo working, manage a caseload and meet the needs of our patients whist adhering to the NICE guidelines, NHS guidelines and The Orange Book.

Package Description

£24,886.42 + £3454 LW paid over 12 months

Post holders will be subjected to an advanced DBS check, a prison security check (level 2) prior to being employed.
