Healthcare Assistant
Job Introduction
HMP Forest Bank are recruiting for a Healthcare Assistant to work within a primary healthcare team, to deliver a comprehensive range of needs based health care services to adult and young offenders residing within HM Prison Forest Bank. This involves providing care by working a range of day shifts including 1 in 3 weekends. If you have experience as a Healthcare Assistant and work well as part of a busy team, this could be a great opportunity for you.
HMP Forest Bank serves the courts of Greater Manchester and maintains strong links to the local community with a focus on resettlement. We aim to deliver quality of life services and support people to change their lives for the better.
Opportunities for learning and developing work-ready skills are on offer for all who come in to custody, but our commitment to reducing reoffending in local communities does not end at the prison gate. We support people released from custody through innovative partnerships in substance misuse services in Bury and Oldham, working with people to maintain recovery and lead law-abiding lives.
As well as the 16 residential units on site, there is a healthcare centre, gym, library, workshop complex, visits hall, chaplaincy and kitchen. The prison’s capacity stands at 1,460, holding adult men both on remand or sentenced and young prisoners between the ages of 18-21 years.

Role Responsibility
Help to run nurse clinics, GP surgeries and nurse triage clinics under supervision
Assist with Health Promotion work as led by qualified staff
Assist with nursing care for residents admitted to the inpatient healthcare unit under the supervision of the qualified staff. This to include recording of observations.
Maintaining a high standard of hygiene in the clinical rooms and treatment areas.
Helping residents make the best use if services available
Assisting qualified staff with the dispensing of medication when required
Providing first aid in emergency situations whilst awaiting the support of qualified staff
Fulfilling other duties as required by the larger Healthcare Team
Completed observations, withdrawal scales and assess patient’s experiencing substance withdrawals.
The ability to solo working, manage a caseload and meet the needs of our patients whist adhering to the NICE guidelines, NHS guidelines and The Orange Book.

£21,214.43 per annum
