Head of Technical Services
Job Introduction
Sodexo is the proud provider of IFM services to Shell UK Limited. To support the successful delivery of services to this prestigious client, we are seeking a Head of Technical Services to lead our hard services teams across the region which spans from an LNG plant in St. Fergus, Aberdeenshire, to Shell’s flagship head office in central London, the Shell London Campus.
In this role, you’ll be responsible for leading our hard services transformation agenda, driving operational excellence through continuous improvement, innovation and collaboration with Sodexo engineering SMEs. You’ll be a senior figure in the contract leadership team and will balance your time between building a best-in-class operational team and nurturing a great relationship with your clients. This role is accountable for c. €8 million of revenue and driving profitable, sustainable growth in the account whilst also delivering cost-effective services to our client will be one of your key objectives.
In the UK and Ireland, Sodexo teams offer a wide spectrum of Quality of Life services to Shell, including: catering, cleaning, FM engineering, health & wellness and administration services to thousands of customers every day both on and offshore.
Sodexo’s Energy & Resources team serves clients across specialist industries: oil & gas; mining and engineering; construction plus other energy sectors. We have a dedicated team of 2,000 employees working at over 80 sites in the UK & Ireland region - often in isolated locations both on and offshore.

Role Responsibility
- Responsibility as the contract specific technical authority delivering best in class technical services provision across the Shell UK onshore sites
- Ensuring compliance with all legal requirements and compliance with Sodexo and Shell internal requirements
- Compliance with all regulatory HSE requirements and internal Sodexo and Shell requirements
- Deliver on financial and operational targets with specific emphasis on contract KPIs, and strategic objectives
- Support the selection, leadership, engagement and development of a highly performing and diverse team (3 direct reports, c. 50 indirect reports)
- Nurture senior relationships with key Shell clients and lead by example in providing excellence in contract/relationship management
- Deploy the UK & I Shell account strategy across the contract and ensuring that effective plans are in place to deliver results
- Deliver of excellence in risk, compliance and quality management
- Maintain strong working relationships with support functions and Sodexo SMEs
- Drive a “one team” culture across the Shell UK & I contract
The Ideal Candidate
Essential
- Significant experience in integrated facilities management and contract mobilisation
- Recognized apprenticeship
- City & Guild level 3 minimum / NVQ level 3 minimum / HNC – HND preferred
- Evidenced management/supervisory position held in the service industry
- Knowledge of control systems
- Experience of budget control over £3m per annum
- Knowledge of HVAC systems
- Knowledge of managing technical services in high rise buildings
- IOSH Managing Safely minimum
- Track record in developing and executing successful hard FM strategies
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills
- Strong engineering project management skills
- High level of competence in numeracy and written communication
Desirable
- Experience in food manufacturing or FMGC environments
