Head of Tax Compliance
Job Introduction
We’re looking for a Head of Tax Compliance to join the transversal Finance team.
You’ll lead the UK & ROI tax compliance work and drive tax related projects and transactions to improve the compliance process.
This position will report into the Head of Tax, UK&I. Once safe to do so you’ll be required to base yourself in the Salford office 1-2 days per week with 3-4 days per week being accommodate from home.
Role Responsibility
Lead annual reporting and compliance calendar including returns and payments to ensure the ability to file online on a timely basis including but not limited to:
- Monthly corporate tax journal and group tax reporting for UK&I region (including year end reporting)
- Annual tax budgeting and regular tax cash forecasting for UK&I region
- ETR forecasting for UK&I region
- Submission of corporate tax computations and returns for the UK and ROI business (including review of returns)
- Assist the production and delivery of the Indirect tax returns (review support from the Senior Tax Specialist – Indirect Tax)
- Tax payments for both UK and I
- Preparation of the tax disclosures for statutory accounts
- Corporate tax claims and elections, and dormant company reviews
- Preparation of the following:
- Corporate interest restriction return
- JAR (including group relief position review)
- Group payment arrangement
- UK & I country transfer pricing files
- UK & I country-by-country reporting notification
- UK diverted profits tax files
- UK controlled foreign company files
- Work closely with group accounting team and the auditors at half-year and year end in respect of tax entries in the accounts (support from Senior Tax Specialist – Indirect Tax)
- Identifying and implementing efficiencies in compliance processes and systems
- Monitor and advise upon corporate tax compliance in segments and the Shared Service Centre
- Understand implications of taxation and compliance changes and plan accordingly
- Manage internal controls as applicable to tax
- Day to day management of HMRC audits, visits and queries on tax matters
- Manage adhoc HMRC processes, such as clearance application, residence certificates etc
- Utilise support of the Tax Compliance Specialists to deliver the compliance calendar
- Audit business and accounting processes from a corporate tax compliance perspective
- Manage the maintenance, review and testing of the tax SAO procedures and documentation to enable the CFO to sign off the certificate to be submitted to HMRC
- Evaluate the impact of changes in corporate tax legislation or developments in the UK &ROI business
- Work with Head of Tax and Senior Tax Specialist – Indirect tax to:
- define tax priorities and risk within the business
- integrate new demands into a stretched agenda – e.g. acquisition implications
- Proactive management of relationship with Senior Tax Specialist – Indirect tax
- Together with the Senior Tax Specialist – Indirect tax, develop and support team members
- Managing performance of Tax Compliance Specialists
- Involvement in Employment tax queries, as and when required
- Any other tasks/projects as requested by the Head of Tax
The Ideal Candidate
- Qualified accountant
- Extensive tax experience, in a complex company structure (preferable either in-house or in tax compliance)
- Excellent and up to date technical knowledge
- Advanced Microsoft and general systems proficiency
- In depth experience and technical knowledge of tax accounting & disclosures for accounting purposes, including deferred tax, prior year adjustments and multiple years, able to hit the ground running
- Experience with OneSource tax software (or other leading tax software and able to transfer knowledge)
- Experience of HFM and SAP accounting packages, or eager to acquire in-depth knowledge on the job
- Board commercial sector experience
- Enthusiastic with strong communication and interpersonal skills and the confidence to deal with people at
- different levels throughout the UK & ROI business
- Experience in line management of team (preferable)
- Flexible approach and adaptable to a changing working environment
- Proactive, demonstrating initiative and anticipating needs of stakeholders
- Managing multiple demands on time and keeping on track
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to work under pressure; think clearly and act decisively
