Head of Education, Skills and Work

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

Job Introduction

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Head of Education, Skills and Work to join the team at HMP Peterborough.

This role will focus on setting and leading the strategic direction for all of Education, Skills and Work (ESW) within the prison. This will involve developing a coherent approach to all areas of “Education, Skills and Work”, ensuring that sequencing of activities is purposeful and directed towards maximizing prisoners’ opportunities to access employment, education and training upon release.

You will ensure that all ESW activities are structured around the 5 pillars of the Ofsted’s Education Inspection Framework, supporting other functional heads within the prison to maximize this approach in areas of prisoner and social interaction.
This is a hugely rewarding role that can have a positive effect on reoffending rates.
Opportunities for learning and developing work-ready skills are on offer for all who come into custody, but our commitment to reducing reoffending in local communities does not end at the prison gate. We support people released from custody through innovative partnerships and working with people to maintain recovery and lead law-abiding lives.

About the Prison

HMP/YOI Peterborough is the country’s only purpose-built prison for both male and female prisoners (kept separate at all times), including a 12-place mother and baby unit. We are committed to offering education and development programmes to provide residents with the skills required to enter employment on release, so reducing the chances of further offending.

Providing creative outlets, such as workshop activities, helps to equip those in custody for when they are released. We use ‘Restorative Approaches’ to bring people in conflict into dialogue. Using a skilled and structured process, those who have been harmed have an opportunity to be heard and those that have caused the harm are held to account for what they have done. We have strong links with the community outside through a variety of partnerships, including our outreach activity Outside Links’ offering support and advice to both residents and their families.
