Job Introduction

To be the main point of contact for Sodexo on site in Solvay Interox. The handyman is responsible for the carrying out of the day-to-day duties to the highest possible standard.

The handyman is responsible for the carrying out of the day-to-day duties to the highest possible standard.  His/her tasks could vary from general repairs to the up keep of pathways and public areas within the premises and managing building maintenance contractors. This role is one which requires a very flexible person, who can multi task quickly and easily.  The successful candidate will have a hands-on role and will be also required to fix and maintain all non-technical matters.  Ultimately, they are responsible for ensuring and maintaining a high-quality delivery of services to the client in order to meet and exceed Service Level Agreement Standards.  The role therefore requires a strong understanding of the client’s needs and an ability to fulfil these needs to the best of their ability. 

Role Responsibility

Context:

  • Delivery of a consistent level of service, within the Company's standards, to the contract specification and agreed performance, qualitative and financial targets.
  • Compliance to company and statutory regulations relating to safe systems of work, health & safety, hygiene, cleanliness, fire and COSHH.
  • Dealing effectively and safely with all service requests and incidents within the range of competence, training and experience as required and by out of hours response where necessary.
  • Ensure the standards across the site(s) are in accordance with the Service Level Agreements and KPI’s specified in the service contract.

Assignments:

  • Painting decorating
  • Litter collection
  • Use of Solvay Fork lift truck
  • Emptying of site bins
  • General repairs/handyman “Security/Cleaning/Catering”
  • General plumbing and electrical knowledge
  • Logging all jobs on the facilities management database, raising work permits and managing building maintenance contractors
  • Gutter cleaning
  • First fix any items on site that is within his ability or remit as agreed with the client.
  • Preparation of conference rooms
  • Drive company vehicles for delivery & collection of parts/materials around site
  • Moving office furniture
  • Issue work permit to external service provider under the guidance of General Services manager and Solvay H&S manager.
  • Assisting the cleaning team, site clean ups
  • Other ad hoc duties

The Ideal Candidate

Essential:

  • Proven track record in similar role, preferably with at least 2 years’ experience
  • Good knowledge of a service industry and the importance of customer service
  • Proven ability to organize tasks
  • Ability to carry out duties efficiently
  • Clean driving licence
  • A strong interest in practical, hands-on work with an ability to fix non-technical items
  • Effective at team building and being able to work well within a team.
  • Ability to be flexible as and when required, whether it be a work task or an approach to people. 
  • To have a pro-active approach which is flexible
  • Extremely customer focused in all dealings with the client.  
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Have ability to deal with complaints in a calm, structured and professional manner

Desirable:

  • Practical experience in a similar role
  • Measured and Consistent Approach to all functions and responsibilities.
  • IOSH QUALIFICATION

Accountabilities:

Execution of non-technical works to include but not exclusive to:

  • Maintain all areas of site under your control. Ensure all reported faults are rectified, all equipment on Sodexo’s possession or used by Sodexo to be kept in safe working order.
  • Deliver a consistent level of service, within the company’s standards & guidelines and according to the contract SLA’s
  • Monitor & visually check electrical equipment used by Sodexo employees for wear & tear on a monthly basis & raise a job with electricians if necessary
  • Deliver agreed monthly maintenance programme as directed by GSM
  • Assist in the preparation of forward planning relating to a programme of repairs & maintenance, which reflects seasonal tasks.
  • Ensure a high standard of personal hygiene and appearance to comply with statutory & company regulations wearing company uniform & PPE as specified.
  • Comply with company & client safe working practices, hygiene cleanliness, fire & COSHH. This will include hazard awareness in the workplace. Follow client company guidelines with regards to identification & reporting health & safety hazards.
  • Administrate and compile work permit documentation in compliance & within controlled client procedures.
  • Report immediately and incidents of fire, theft, hazardous situations, behaviours or acts, near misses and accidents to line manager and take appropriate action where necessary e.g. positive safety talk
