Job Introduction

Responsible for the co-ordination of Communications and Information Systems (CIS) infrastructure support to all Garrison units based at Colchester, and as such is to assume the duties of Deputy Authorised Telecommunications Officer (DATO).

In addition the post holder is also responsible for the provision of administration support for the G6 SO2 and G6 IT Manager.

Role Responsibility

1. Provide Administrative support to the CIS office as per Para 1.1, Appendix 3, Section 7 of Part 3 to Schedule 4 of the Project Agreement.

  • Perform filing and maintenance of all CIS correspondence.
  • Monitor Group email inbox and maintain the electronic calendar.
  • Assist in other miscellaneous tasks as detailed by SO2 G6 CIS.
  • To ensure the smooth running of the G6 CIS office.

2. Process IT and telephony requests for new lines, moves and cessations and faults.

  • Record details on the G6 task lists.
  • Submit orders to BT Portal on the relevant system.
  • Issue mobile telephones and laptops within Colchester Garrison.
  • To support the activities of all units based at Colchester Garrison.

3. Operate and maintain relevant databases and spreadsheets detailing all Telecomm and IT holdings, issues and expenditure.

  • Process Telecomm bills and verify costs and utilisation.
  • Collate the relevant information to assist in the recovery of costs for unauthorised telephone usage.
  • Administer and maintain a spreadsheet of all CIS expenditure together with in-year details.
  • To assist the SO2 G6 in maintaining control and accountability of the IT and Telephony budgets.

4. Assist in maintaining continuous support to G6 CIS customers.

  • Provide advice to units within the Colchester Garrison area on CIS issues.
  • Provide necessary cover for the Automated Telecommunications Officer in the event of leave/sickness.
  • Maintain telephone assistance to remote units at Wattisham and Woodbridge in the absence of the permanent team member covering those locations.
  • Process MODNet orders for Colchester Garrison and supported units.
  • To provide excellent customer service to all users of IT and Telephony services within Colchester Garrison.

The Ideal Candidate

Essential

  • IT qualification (European Computer Driving Licence)
  • Demonstrable ability to work in a successful team
  • Demonstrable ability to manage and prioritise workload
  • Professional demeanor which generates credibility amongst internal/external customers, staff and clients
  • 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above, or equivalent. Or NVQ Business Administration Level 2.
  • SC security clearance required on successful application
  • Requires MODNET (Communications and Information System) Account and will be required to undertake Defence Information Management Passport (DIMP) training, which is a mandatory e-learning course upon successful application

Desirable

  • Good aural communication skills
  • Knowledge of MOD regulations, practices and procedures relating to the post
  • Previous experience of working within a military environment
  • Knowledge of Defence IT systems
  • Demonstrable experience of working in the field of telecommunications
