Energy and Sustainability Manager

Job Introduction

As an Energy and Sustainability Manager you will be working on a new Government Services contract to develop and implement sustainability strategy and improvements. The role involves strategically working with the client and suppliers to gather, analyse and advise on utilities, waste and other sustainability aspects that will drive operational and environmental performance across the client’s extensive property portfolio. This includes supporting the client to meet their strategic estate objectives, in particular, the Greening Government commitments and targets.
This is an exciting opportunity to work within a dynamic account team and alongside Energy and Sustainability professionals to drive Energy and Sustainability improvements on a large and publicly visible portfolio.

Role Responsibility

As an Energy and Sustainability Manager you responsibilities will be to :
 Understand client strategy, objectives and tactical requirements and how these inform the focus of business intelligence activity.
 Review and manage the delivery of the client’s monthly management information report including utilities, waste and sustainability performance and financial metrics.
 Targeting sustainability audits and surveys to ensure compliance and identify improvements.
 Develop supplier relationship to manage delivery of sustainability improvements and report on progress made.
 Work closely with the Energy Manager and Energy Performance Analyst to provide technical engineering support and implementation to our client relating to energy efficiency as part of asset lifecycle, projects and estates strategy.
 Monitor emerging sustainability related legal compliance as well as Government and industry best practice. Including climate change adaptation, biodiversity programmes, sustainability procurement of food and catering services and sustainable construction for new building projects.
 Applying knowledge and driving best practice to meet sustainable standards such as BREEAM, SKA Rating, LEED, ISO 14001, etc.)
 Communications and reporting to contractors, relating to energy and sustainability performance and improvements.
 Assist the client with developing and implementing an estate sustainability strategy including infrastructure, facilities management service-lines and operational use of the buildings.
 Provide detailed professional and technical advice regarding the operation and maintenance of the energy consuming infrastructure to deliver optimal carbon and energy efficiency, including boilers, chillers, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) systems, lighting etc.
 Provide detailed reports for proposed energy and water reduction initiatives, including payback periods and estimated and delivered carbon savings.
 Support with the management of energy projects to ensure returns on investment and agreed savings are delivered.
 Proactively contribute to the sharing of experience and expertise across our accounts.
 

The Ideal Candidate

Essential:
 Degree and/or post graduate degree in a relevant subject or equivalent qualification by experience.
 Professional membership of relevant institution (e.g. IEMA, CIWM, CIBSE).
 Minimum of 5 years’ experience in sustainability with respect to buildings/facilities.
 Understanding of legislative requirements, including CRC, ESOS, DECs, MEES, Waste Management.
 Experience of Energy Management Systems (ISO 50001).
 Strong customer relationship skills.
 Good influencing and communication skills
 Financial and business awareness.
 Ability to undertake on-site and desk-top assessments to identify utility savings.
 Ability to write recommendation reports to suit varying audiences (technical and non-technical).
 Awareness of carbon reporting and accounting.
 Ability to work both with others as part of a team and also independently.
 Takes accountability and responsibility for delivering required results.
 Competent with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Desirable:
 Experience of designing climate change adaptation programmes.
 Experience of biodiversity programmes.
 Experience of sustainable procurement of food and catering services.
 Experience of sustainable construction.
 Previous engineering experience in an operational maintenance role in a large estate setting with a proven track record of optimising energy and water efficiency.
 CIBSE Low Carbon Consultant or Assessor.
 LEED or BREEAM assessor.
 Experience/knowledge of sustainability/environmental ISO and BS standards.
 Financial business case development (MACC, OPEX, CAPEX, NPV).
 Experience of working with or for a Facilities Management organisation.
 Experience of CAFM / CMMS systems.
 Experience of the Government Services sector.
