Deputy Portering Manager

We are looking for a great Deputy Portering Manager to join our team at Royal Stoke University Hospital. Assisting the Portering Manager you will provide support in the day-to-day operations of Portering services, Waste, postal services, receipt, and distribution services across all hospital sites. You will ensure the supervisory and front-line teams are carrying out day to day duties meeting contractual demands. Your excellent communication skills will be key to your success as you support with the Integration with all other support services, departments, and the Trust departments to ensure a professional and seamless service is delivered. This is a large diverse team and you will find your work both challenging and highly rewarding! You will be keen to work collaboratively with the clinical teams and other key stakeholders to ensure standards of service are delivered and maintained. You will also be mindful of growth and service, always using your initiative to assist with continuous improvements in all aspects of service delivery.
Role Responsibility
- Assist in gathering all statistics and figures relating to Portering response times.
- To respond to identified areas of continuous improvements.
- Assist in the recruitment, training and development of staff. Motivating staff to ensure a high-quality service is provided.
- Support with developing and carrying out strategies in areas of service weakness.
- Assist in the process to develop performance and standard to meet areas of compliance.
- To play an active part in supporting and developing supervisors in personal development.
- To assist in the timely completion of weekly staff rosters. Identifying areas requiring cover ie, sickness and annual leave, adequately trained staff are identified in advance to maintain the level of service
- Ensuring that the privacy and dignity for patients and visitors is always a priority
- Assist in dealing with complaints from patients and clients ensuring that they are satisfactorily resolved
- Ensuring that ongoing effective communications are established with all staff through team brief and other mechanisms.
- Monitoring of skills set within each area meet demands of the service.
- Assist in contract validation, prepare information for Logistics & Waste Manager
The Ideal Candidate
- Experience of successfully supervising and/or managing teams
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to relate at all levels
Desirable
- Holder of IOSH Working Safely certificate
- Holder of 1st line Management Qualification
- Experience of/good working knowledge of a Portering service with a high level of technical skills.
- Good working knowledge of CARPS or similar computerized system
- Experience in clinical environment
- Manual handling & infection control knowledge

Work Pattern – 40 hrs pw 5/7 to include weekends on a rota basis 10.00 – 18.00
