Location: Altrincham Grammar School for Boys, Marlborough Road, Altrincham, WA14 2RS
Hours: 27.5 hours per week
Pay: £14.00 per hour
Schedule: Predominantly Monday to Friday, 1:00pm – 6:30pm
Requirements: Enhanced DBS Check, Right to Work
Skills: Customer service, communication, people skills, team leadership

Role Overview

The Cleaning Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that the school’s domestic standards meet the expectations of both the client and Sodexo, working within the requirements of the Service Level Agreement and cleaning schedules set by management. The role includes supporting daily operations and assisting cleaning operatives as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Organise daily workload to ensure the smooth running of the cleaning service, escalating any issues to management promptly.

  • Work with Sodexo and school management to review cleaning methods, equipment, and chemicals, regularly recommending improvements.

  • Complete induction and training to meet company standards, ensuring training is applied in practice and raising any concerns with the Cleaning Manager.

  • Provide cover for absent cleaners when required.

  • Take reasonable steps to prevent loss or damage to property, staff, and pupils.

  • Supervise cleaning staff to maintain agreed standards in line with Service Level Agreements.

  • Support logistical needs for school events such as performances, assemblies, conferences, and meetings.

  • Maintain stock levels of cleaning materials and equipment, keeping cleaning cupboards tidy and organised.

  • Conduct monthly stock checks of chemicals and cleaning equipment when required.

  • Work flexibly to ensure all areas are appropriately staffed and service quality is maintained.

  • Maintain open communication with the Cleaning Manager and support the day-to-day operation.

  • Attend Sodexo and school meetings as needed.

  • Participate in required training courses.

  • Comply with all school policies and statutory Health & Safety regulations, including safe working practices, hygiene, cleanliness, fire safety, and COSHH.

  • Carry out any reasonable request from the Headmaster, Estates Manager, or Sodexo Management Team.

Additional Information

  • Maintain honest and open communication with management.

  • Manage daily staff absences.

  • Work effectively in a demanding environment due to the age of the building and high footfall (1,200+ people per day).

  • Ensure all training, COSHH guidelines, and Health & Safety practices are followed consistently.

Essential Criteria

  • Experience working in a standards-driven or compliance-focused environment

  • Good knowledge of Health & Safety and COSHH regulations

  • Experience in client or stakeholder communication

  • Previous team leadership experience (preferred)

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience within contract or facilities management

  • BICS qualification or knowledge
