Art Tutor (20 hours per week) 8 month FTC

Awarded a bronze accreditation by Investors in People, HMP YOI Bronzefield focuses on providing needs-based services and programmes aimed at rehabilitating and maintaining the well-being of prisoners.

HMP YOI Bronzefield is an all female prison that can hold up to 527 women.

The focus of the department is to provide education opportunities which will enable the residents in our care to gain skills and competences that will assist them to return into the community without re-offending.

The skills gained will enable the women to live independently once discharged. This will allow for better reintegration in to society and impact positively on recidivism rates.

As an Art Tutor you will contribute to the delivery of Art and Craft, Business and Enterprise and Education session and orovide prisoners with the opportunity to gain nationally accredited awards where appropriate.

Role Responsibility

  • Take on course tutor responsibilities including the devising and development of project briefs, lesson plans and appropriate resources to engage and develop learners.
  • Produce and maintain all relevant course documentation as required, including coursework, individual learning plans and tutorial records, demonstrating and tracking progression.
  • Develop learner centered teaching and training strategies, which contribute to the retention, progression and achievement of learners.
  • Provide regular feedback to learners, and give group and individual tutorial support to enable them to achieve maximum benefit from their course or program.

  • Be an active member of the team and attend staff development, team and programme meetings as required and to contribute to the development of an integrated learning and support programme for Art learners, to ensure consistent improvement within the provision.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Teaching qualification e.g. PTLLS (Minimum) OR- The right person who working towards an arts based degree who has the right skills, attitude, ideas and experience.
  • Relevant experience of teaching Art/Adult Education to groups of adults, in particular challenging groups of learners
  • Knowledge of Business/Social Enterprise, Art and Functional skills
  • Ability to teach effectively and to prepare relevant teaching materials across a range of levels.
  • Ability to work with Art learners in identifying individual learning needs and to negotiate individual learning plans accordingly
  • Ability to teach well, with evidence of differentiation, inclusion and awareness of learning styles         
  • Fluency and accuracy in English, both written and oral
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to change
  • Ability to operate flexibly as a team member

Desirable

  • Experience of working with students from a range of cultural and faith backgrounds
  • Experience of preparing individual learning plans
  • Knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation
  • Knowledge of assessment processes and awarding bodies
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an approachable personality
  • High level of organisational skills

Package Description
