Health and Safety Coordinator

Location: London, WC1A 1DG

Salary: £32,000 per annum plus Sodexo benefits

Contract: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Role Purpose

The Health and Safety Coordinator provides health, safety and environmental (HSE) support to Sodexo Operational teams at a London headquarters site, working with a global pharmaceutical client.

The Health and Safety Coordinator will work closely with Sodexo Operational teams, site vendors, and the client to ensure risks are effectively managed, training is completed, and inspection, incident investigation, and proactive reporting programs are embedded and effective.

The role operates under the guidance of the UK & Ireland HSE Manager and works collaboratively with site operational teams to build strong safety communities and provide appropriate HSE advice aligned with their development stage.

The Health and Safety Coordinator is expected to work towards Level 3 qualifications in Health & Safety and Food Safety as part of their professional development.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Monitor site HSE training completion and escalate any concerns where required.
  • Develop and support a strong HSE Community on site, including Sodexo, the client, and other parties operating on site.
  • Support operational teams in following Sodexo and client HSE procedures.
  • Ensure incidents are correctly reported and appropriately investigated in line with Sodexo and client standards.
  • Support site teams in developing and delivering the HSE elements of site operational plans.
  • Review incident records to ensure compliance with Sodexo and client reporting requirements.
  • Oversee the Level 1 management monitoring programme within Sodexo’s Site Management System (SMS), ensuring inspections are completed by appropriate personnel, on time, and that actions are closed within agreed deadlines.
  • Promote and support effective safety walks, including joining department managers, clients, and third parties, and sharing findings across the site.
  • Work with operational teams to build and maintain a library of safety moments and quick-share communications.
  • Respond to health and safety queries from operational teams directly or by seeking guidance from the UK & Ireland HSE Manager.*
  • Support the UK & Ireland HSE Manager in identifying opportunities to automate or simplify HSE systems.
  • Actively support the development of a zero-harm mindset across site teams.*
  • Work with the UK & Ireland HSE Manager to identify emerging risks and support improvement plans as directed.
  • Assist in preparation for client and external audits as required.
  • Ensure site safety performance is visible to relevant stakeholders.*
  • Demonstrate ongoing progress towards Level 3 Health & Safety and Food Safety qualifications.

* Supported by the UK & Ireland HSE Manager while training.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Working towards a Level 3 Health & Safety qualification and Level 3 Food Safety qualification.
  • Strong desire to learn and develop knowledge of UK health and safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence employees at all levels.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess risks, investigate incidents, and propose effective solutions.
  • Proficiency in using safety management systems and digital tools.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks, and manage time effectively.
