Job Summary:

The Catering Manager is responsible for the planning, preparation, and presentation of all meals in line with the service level agreement to ensure client, customer, and Sodexo satisfaction. This role oversees daily catering operations, manages financial performance, supervises and trains staff, and maintains compliance with health, safety, and food hygiene regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare, and present all meals on time, adhering strictly to client and Sodexo standards and service level agreements.
  • Ensure compliance with special dietary requirements, particularly allergen management.
  • Monitor and control the financial performance of the catering unit, ensuring targets are met within budget.
  • Manage, train, and develop line staff, including conducting performance reviews and coaching.
  • Implement disciplinary procedures as per company guidelines and maintain accurate records, liaising with HR and account management.
  • Ensure accurate payroll compilation in compliance with latest regulations and company policies.
  • Oversee purchasing and inventory control in alignment with Sodexo supplier agreements.
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards of the catering unit to required levels.
  • Ensure timely completion of all due diligence records in line with food safety policies.
  • Complete weekly trading reports using eProfit, capturing all income and supplier invoices accurately.
  • Organize hospitality catering events, including those outside normal working hours when required.
  • Maintain security of kitchen, store, office, safe, monies, and other areas under Sodexo control.
  • Provide relief and support in other establishments as needed.
  • Attend meetings and training sessions as requested.
  • Assist the General Services Manager in managing all Sodexo services on-site, covering for holidays and sickness.

Accountabilities:

  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with personnel at all levels within Sodexo and client organizations.
  • Uphold the standards and integrity of the service offering and service level agreement at all times.
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory regulations and company policies.
  • Take necessary action in cases of accidents, fire, loss, theft, unfit food, or other irregularities, including completing required reports.
  • Maintain regular communication with the General Services Manager and Account Manager, providing necessary reports related to operations.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to reasonable requests from the General Services Manager or Account Manager.

Person Specification:

  • NVQ Chef qualification or equivalent.
  • Proven experience in catering management.
  • Experience managing and developing a team.
  • Budget management experience.
  • Experience delivering training in line with company guidelines.
  • Computer literate with good financial acumen.
  • Strong leadership, motivation, communication, coaching, and training skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to set and achieve standards, particularly regarding hygiene and food safety.
  • Self-motivated with a strong sense of initiative.
  • Team player with a flexible approach to work.
