Job Introduction

An opportunity has arisen to work as a Hairdresser/Tutor within HMP Bronzefield. The post holder will be reporting to a Senior Tutor within Education. The role is to provide a hairdressing service to prisoners as well as deliver training to assistants and assessing their work, leading to external qualifications.

Role Responsibility

To provide a hair styling service for all prisoners
To cut, style and treat hair to recognised industry standards
Create a friendly, warm and safe environment
For Tutoring, encourage a positive approach to learning
To maintain a record of progress and achievement for each student
Where appropriate assess students for external or in-house accreditation.
Contribute to the development of the Education Department as a whole
Take ownership of immediate working area in terms of displays and organisation
Be responsible to booking and arranging all Salon appointments
To produce all relevant course documentation as required, including assessments, individual learning records and tutorial records
To be involved in all processes and procedures related to the selection, interviewing, enrolment, induction and tracking of hairdressing assistants

The Ideal Candidate

NVQ level 2 in Hairdressing (or equivalent) and at least one years practical experience
Desirable experience of training
teaching qualification (minimum PTLLS or equivalent) or a willingness to gain one
Have an understanding of the issues affecting women in a custodial environment
Experience of working with clients from a range of cultural and faith backgrounds
Strong interpersonal skills
High level of organisational skills
Knowledge of and commitment to best practice in equalities and diversity;
Knowledge of assessment processes and awarding bodies
