Senior Ward Housekeeper

Job Introduction

We currently have an opportunity for a Senior Ward Housekeeper to join our team. This is a great opportunity for a customer focused individual to join a world leading food and facilities management company, which can offer unrivalled opportunities for career progression.

Role Responsibility

  • Supervise the work of all domestic staff in order to maintain and deliver a quality service according to set work schedules and procedures.
  • Draw up weekly staff rotas
  • Undertake weekly monitoring of quality control systems for the domestic service through appropriate IT systems as instructed, undertaking appropriate remedial action in areas that do not meet the required standards.
  • Control and issue all domestic equipment and materials within budget limits.
  • Oversee the reporting of maintenance defects of domestic equipment and materials, according to set procedures.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with staff, clients and other departmental supervisors.
  • Recruit, induct and train new starters in the domestic department, continually assessing and monitoring staff training needs and present training recommendations to the Head of Housekeeping to comply with Company Training Procedures.
  • Ensure that all employees conduct themselves in a professional polite, courteous and appropriate manner and attitude towards patients and maintain their dignity at all times, including privacy when it comes to their personal information.
  • Provide a sound reporting system to ensure that staff sickness and absenteeism reporting procedures are maintained.
  • Provide and maintain a system of checks to ensure Hygiene Standards are maintained and that work has been carried out in accordance with the cleaning schedules.

 

The Ideal Candidate

Essential

  • Manual handling training
  • Experience of domestic work within a hospital or similar environment
  • Effective communication and customer care skills
  • Good time management and organisational skills
  • Ability to monitor, lead and develop a team of people increasing individual effectiveness through leadership, motivation, communication, coaching and training
  • Financial awareness in managing budget
  • Understanding of relevant Health and Safety, Employment and other legislative requirements
  • Self-motivated
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to deal with stressful situations
  • Positive approach to learning in role and identifying own training needs as appropriate
  • Flexible approach to role

Desirable

  • Practical knowledge of an IT quality management system
  • Experience of a healthcare environment
  • Experience in the training and development of staff
  • Qualification in Health and Safety

Selection will be based on competitive interview, skills and experience.

 

Please note that this role will be subject to a Numeracy and Literacy Assessment.

 

Applicants will be required to undergo screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers, the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and Occupational Health.

 

Please note, the screening may take up to approximately 6 weeks from the date of your induction before clearance for work is given.
