Security Guard

Role Responsibility
Job Purpose
- To provide a transport service to meet the needs of the wards and departments and to ensure that patients, materials and equipment are safely and appropriately transferred around the hospital
- To direct patients, staff and visitors to all areas of the hospital
- To provide a visible presence around the site, ensuring that the main tasks listed below are carried out.

Security
- Regular patrols to take place within the site to ensure that all area’s that were secured earlier have remained locked and no visible signs of break in.
- Check car park areas around the site.
- Visible presence in the treatment area off A/E to reassure the staff and patients
- Complete daily occurrence reports. Fill in all incident reports for client detailing incidents
- Ability to deal with the physical effort required to regularly walk around site.
- To provide an immediate response to clinical staff when requested.
Patient Related Tasks
- Ability to deal with and be able to respond to security issues, e.g. assaults on staff, security incidents, thefts from staff, patients and/or visitors
- Ability to deal with occasional exposure to physical and verbal aggression
- To transfer patients in a safe and appropriate manner to and from the wards and departments via means of walking, wheelchair, stretcher or beds
- To convey blood specimens in a safe manner from wards/departments to Pathology department.
- Conveyance of patient notes and x-rays to and from wards/departments
- Removal of deceased bodies from wards/departments to the mortuary in a safe and dignified manner
- To replace gasses where necessary on wards/departments for the requirements of patients.
- To assist in the transfer of seriously injured patients from the helicopter to the A & E department
- To use the designated blood tracking system.
- To help distribute drugs from pharmacy to wards/departments.
- Assisting patients to be pat slid across from trolleys to the bed with assistance from the nursing staff
- To attend cardiac arrests with the resus trolley
- To assist staff on the day case unit to transport patients to and from wards
- To assist new starter induction’s on the “buddy” programme

Equipment and Material Related Tasks
- Ensure bleep, mobile phone and radio are in full working order and report any defects immediately.
- All communication equipment used in the correct manner.
- Remove equipment from wards/departments as required by the portering Manager or Charghands
- To re-stock oxygen banks as required
- Delivery of supplies to all wards
- Collection and delivery of post
- Ensure wheelchairs and trolleys are kept clean and report any defects immediately
- Use radios to communicate with the Helpdesk, Chargehand in the correct manner
- Any other duties as deemed appropriate by the line manager

Emergency Fire Instructions
- Meet fire crew at Main Entrance, and direct to the appropriate entrance nearest the fire situation
- Proceed to the lifts. Ensure no one is trapped, if there is report to the Fire Brigade. Immobilise to prevent use during the fire incident

Driving
- To complete weekly vehicle inspection forms
- To ensure vehicles are kept clean and tidy and are cleaned inside and out on a weekly basis
- Report any defects or concerns regarding the vehicle immediately
The Ideal Candidate
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
Essential
- SIA Guarding/door licence
- Written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to write reports in a clear and structured manner
- Empathy with patients and visitors
- Ability to follow instruction
- Effective communication and customer care skills
- High standards of personal hygiene
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to deal with stressful situations.
- Manual Handling training
- Basic literacy skills.
Package Description
35 hours per week
Weekend enhancements for Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays
Must be SIA Licenced and hold a clean driving license
Healthcare awareness preferred but not compulsory as training will be given. Some portering duties involved car parking patrol, specimens collections, patient tranfers
10 hours shifts, 20:00-06:00, 4 on 4 off shifts
