Small Works Estimator

Job Introduction

We are currently recruiting a Small Works Estimator at the University of Greenwich. Reporting to the Technical Services Manager and Project Manager, you will take overall responsibility for the collation and production of all estimates and reports.

You’ll take requests for extra or remedial works for the contract and turn these into small works estimates. You’ll focus to ensure that they are priced and submitted to the client in a timely and effective manner.

To be truly successful in this role you will be analytical but have the ability to think beyond or around a process. You’ll be a time served engineer and be a quick learner who is self-motivated.

 

Role Responsibility

  • Evaluate and clearly understand the details and requirements for each estimate, attend site visits where necessary and provide tender evaluation in line with current processes and strategy prior to estimation
  • Estimate the costs; labour, materials and sub contractors required to achieve the specification, calculating any adjustments for overheads, profit, life expectancy cycle and contingency
  • Provide estimates on the completion of the project including milestones and completion rates through continual review
  • Obtain sub-contractor costs and evaluate the prices, negotiating with contractors and sub-contractors as required to provide meaningful costs in the agreed timeframe
  • Responsible for any changes from the original specification including preliminary pricings, time scales and any other changes as requested
  • Knowledge of all estimating packages including, templates, tender logs etc
  • Keep up to date with the latest estimator techniques, procedures and estimating packages

The Ideal Candidate

What’s essential:

  • Time Served Engineer
  • Ideally come from an Estimating background within Hard FM
  • Proven time management organisational skills, with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Good attention to detail and high levels of accuracy
  • Ability to quickly assess the requirement, and then change dependant on new information
  • Analytical but ability to think beyond or around a process
  • Self-starter and ability to operate and communicate at all levels (from site level to senior management)
  • Knowledge of direct labour resource within the Hard FM platform in terms of market cost
