Job Introduction

The Site Chemist will safely carry out technical aspects of waste management operations across the GSK R&D sites as prescribed under working procedures and in accordance with the Client's and GSK's own guidelines.

Role Responsibility

  • Assessment of lab smalls for collection from laboratories.
  • Segregation sorting and packaging of lab smalls.
  • Management of the effluent testing programme across GSK R&D sites ensuring samples are taken stored and despatched in accordance with procedural and GSK guidelines.
  • Liaison with Thames Water, hosting routine sampling visits.
  • Assessment of effluent testing results liaising with the Client and GSK on any investigations into consent breaches or other testing issues.
  • Provide technical expertise in the handling, packaging of hazardous wastes to staff the client and GSK.
  • Provide additional support to the waste management operations.
  • Ensure good housekeeping and safe storage of wastes is maintained.
  • Contribution to the behavioral safety and near-miss reporting requirements.
  • Liaison with contract management on operational and safety aspects of work

The Ideal Candidate

  • Chemistry degree or equivalent
  • Knowledge and experience of the identification and categorization of hazardous wastes
  • Valid driving licence and preferably forklift licence
  • Excellent communication skills - written and verbal
  • Computer literate with an established working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and familiarity with database systems
