Nursing Associate

Job Introduction

HMP Peterborough have an exciting opportunity for 5 Nursing Associates to join the busy healthcare team. In this role, you will provide high quality care to patients with indirect supervision from a registered nurse/practitioner and will be required to play an integral role in the delivery of essential clinical care within HMP Peterborough as part of the Multi-Disciplinary Team.

To be successful in this role, you must have a current NMC registration as a Nursing Associate and have the ability to work independently and as a team member while being able to prioritise and meet goals, sometimes with tight deadlines.

HMP/YOI Peterborough is the country’s only purpose-built prison for both male and female prisoners (kept separate at all times), including a 12-place mother and baby unit. We are committed to offering education and development programmes to provide residents with the skills required to enter employment on release, so reducing the chances of further offending. Providing creative outlets, such as workshop activities, helps to equip those in custody for when they are released. We use ‘Restorative Approaches’ to bring people in conflict into dialogue. Using a skilled and structured process, those who have been harmed have an opportunity to be heard and those that have caused the harm are held to account for what they have done. We have strong links with the community outside through a variety of partnerships, including our outreach activity Outside Links’ offering support and advice to both residents and their families.

Role Responsibility

  • Deliver high quality evidence-based care, acting as a role model at all times.
  • Administer medications as prescribed according to local and Royal Pharmaceutical Society guidelines.
  • Be professionally accountable for your care, including actions and omissions.
  • Provide an emergency first line response service in emergency situations daily within the prison environment.
  • Ensure that you are individually aware of changes to guidelines and policies that impact on clinical practice

The Ideal Candidate

Essential

  • Current NMC registration as a Nursing Associate.
  • Evidence of professional development.
  • Non-judgmental approach towards all individuals.
  • Flexibility to work shift patterns on a 24-hour rotational basis in response to the needs of the prison including nights/weekends/bank holidays
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to prioritise and meet goals, sometimes with tight deadlines.

Desirable

  • Previous prison or secure services experience

Package Description

Excellent salary £25,000 to £28,000 per annum

Post holders will be subjected to an advanced DBS check, a prison security check (level 2) prior to being employed.
