Job Introduction

Are you a Multi-skilled Engineer with a strong mechanical bias and maintenance background? Do you have great interpersonal skills and ability to work independently?

We are currently looking to recruit a Multi-Skilled Engineer with mechanical bias to provide technical expertise across our contract with Exeter Schools. Exeter Schools is a PFI contract made up of 6 schools located within proximity and in this role, you will operate across the schools with regard to planned and reactive maintenance and various projects ensuring high levels of compliance and health & safety.

NB! Please note that it is mandatory to be DBS cleared to undertake this position.

The post holder will be required to undertake the role within a weekly rotating early/late shift system to ensure overall contract coverage i.e. 7am – 3pm, 8am – 4pm or 10am – 6pm and be available to assume on call responsibilities for emergencies every 1 in 5 weeks.

The contract covers six schools within the Exeter Area less than 5 miles of each other, company vehicle, tools, equipment, uniform and PPE are provided.

 

Role Responsibility

  • Carry out and oversee the day to day operation which includes planned maintenance, fault finding and repair, periodic inspections and testing of the complete spectrum of services found in a building services environment which include:
    • LV Sub Station Distribution and associated Electrical Systems
    • HVAC systems
    • Water Systems and Distribution
    • Sanitary fittings
    • Building Management Systems (BMS)
    • Lifts
    • Boiler Controls and associated equipment\services
    • Fire Alarm Systems
    • Building Fabric and Structure
  • Ensure that corrective maintenance and reactive works are carried out within the priority timescales
  • Ensure that work is carried out in accordance with legislation, codes of practice, manufacturer’s recommendations, HSE recommendations and meets prescribed standards in the contract
  • Work with contract operational and administrative staff to ensure Hard Service tasks are completed and reported effectively
  • Take direction and receipt of planned or reactive workloads from the Hard Services Managers or Helpdesk for completion

The Ideal Candidate

  • Qualification in or Knowledge of Mechanical & Plumbing Building Services.
  • Time served Engineer with substantial relevant post experience in a similar environment.
  • Ability to gain DBS Enhanced vetting clearance
  • Full driving licence
  • Ability to Multi-task across mechanical, electrical and building disciplines at a basic level
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to organise others.
  • The ability to listen to others understand and interpret their views.
  • Analyse and provide technical advice and solutions.
  • Good oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non –technical staff.
  • Prioritizing own workload and working under own initiative with minimal supervision.
  • Experience of working within a Building Maintenance Organisation.
  • Basic supervision of maintenance contractors
  • A good understanding of the interrelationship between assets and their maintenance and lifecycle requirements.
