Sodexo seek to appoint a POOL LIFEGUARD, based at CITB Bircham Newton, working on a casual agreement basis, covering various different shift times during pool opening times.

This position is a casual agreement initially but still subject to production of Qualification, Right to Work documentation, satisfactory references, and the completion of a three month probationary period

ABOUT US:

We are a thriving team, passionate about working together to deliver excellence, based at the CITB in Bircham Newton. The site comprises of accommodation blocks, offices, training hangars, recreational and catering facilities, and the Birches conference centre, all of which are used by trainees, staff and students.

The 25m x 12m on-site swimming pool is used by trainees, staff and students, schools, clubs, and leisure club members.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

You will be expected to provide the highest level of lifeguarding services within the service specification in a positive, friendly manner and ensure compliance with all Health and Safety necessary.

HOURS OF WORK WILL VARY EACH WEEK, THEREFORE, YOU MUST BE FLEXIBLE: Your days and hours of work will vary each week and so it is necessary for you to be flexible, however, rotas are prepared a month in advance whenever possible. You are not guaranteed particular hours and there may be weeks when you will be asked to work less and others when you will be asked to work more .

Various shifts possible, however, these will be based on the pool opening times, as follows:

Sundays: 8.30am to 1.00pm
Mondays and Thursdays: 7.00am to 9.00am and 11.30am to 6.30pm
Tuesdays and Wednesdays: 7.00am to 9.00am and 11.30am to 9.00pm
Fridays: 7.00am to 9.00am and 11.30am to 7.00pm
Saturdays: Pool closed.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Lifeguards are the main point of contact for swimmers. You will be required to demonstrate the ability to welcome swimmers in a positive, friendly manner and ensure compliance with all Health and Safety necessary and expected in the pool environment.

You will also be expected to maintain and ensure the highest level of cleanliness and hygiene (to the Company standards within the service specification) to all areas of the pool building.

Qualifications and Skills - Essential requirements:

• A valid NPLQ - National Pool Lifeguard Qualification. However, for the right candidate full training may be considered.

• To progress to interview stage, candidates must be able to:

Jump/dive into deep water
Swim 50m in less than 60 seconds
Swim 100m continuously on front and back in deep water
Tread water for 30 seconds
Surface dive to the floor of the pool
Climb out unaided without ladder/steps and where the pool design permits.

Candidates must also:

• Be well presented with a high standard of personal hygiene.

• Have experience in a similar job role.

• Have an attention for detail and a strong work ethic.

• The ideal candidate would be aged 18 or over.

Desirable requirements: The ideal candidate will be fully qualified, with a current certificate, or have experience of the following:

• First Aid certificate

• Experience in pool plant operation

• Use of a defibrillator

• The ideal candidate would be aged 18 or over, however, consideration will be given to those from the age of 16 who can demonstrate experience and hold the necessary qualification.

Role Responsibility

As a Lifeguard, as well as daily supervision of the pool and various pool activities, you will also be responsible for:

  • The management and control of all COSHH and cleaning stock.
  • The daily cleaning regimes within the Gymnasium in compliance with the contract requirements.   
  • Attendance at the regular monthly staff training in all matters of life guarding techniques and first aid, maintain in date lifeguard qualification (NPLQ)
  • Management of Swimming Pool & Sports Hall Equipment, to include storage, issue & receipt, and the maintaining of records.
  • Preparation of Sports Hall areas for programmed sessions, including setting up of equipment.
  • Manning of Reception as and when required, and control of access to the facility.     
  • Care of Fitness Suite Equipment, including regular checks, maintenance, the keeping of records, and performing customer familiarisations as required.    
  • Compliance with all shift patterns, work timings and regimes and Company employee policies.
  • Thorough understanding of Gymnasium SOP’s, Pool NOP’s and EAP’s.

The Ideal Candidate

  • The successful candidate for this role will have:
  • Previous experience in a similar role
  • Knowledge of the leisure industry
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • A flexible working attitude along with the ability to plan and prioritise workload
  • A National Pool Lifeguarding qualification is essential
