Health and Safety Officer - Healthcare

Job Introduction

Sodexo Healthcare are looking to recruit a Health & Safety Officer who can demonstrate strong Health and Safety compliance to join our team at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. The main focus of this role will be to provide Health & Safety Leadership to the Sodexo Estates Hard FM team, and specifically assure Sodexo compliance with COSHH and the Health & Safety at Work Act.

As an experienced Health and Safety Officer, you will ensure that all Health & Safety and COSHH requirements are strategically planned and tactically deployed. The role has the ownership of assuring all HASAWA and Contracted obligations are met, all risks are assessed, mitigated and controlled appropriately. This role requires a strong but mindful personality which enables guidance to colleagues and sub contactors and provides the Head of Estates with overall and qualified assurance of HSE and COSHH matters.

Role Responsibility

  • Support the Hard FM Management Team in fulfilling their responsibilities for HSE on site, advising and assisting as necessary
  • Implement Health, Safety and Environmental policies, procedures, and projects on site aligned with Company Policy.
  • Undertake regular site tours to ensure HSE standards are being maintained and ensure ownership is in place and being driven by management.
  • Ensure HSE systems on site are maintained and kept up to date.
  • Assurance with ISO9001 & ISO45001 Management Standards
  • Set and monitor the Company Health, Safety and Environmental goals and objectives including presentation of KPI’s to Senior Management suitable to monitor the HSE systems, including the identification of trends
  • Provide guidance and support across all levels of the business to maintain a consistent approach to HSE Management and best practice
  • Identify HSE training, competency, and awareness requirements, tracking competence and maintaining at all staff levels
  • Oversee the Risk Management Procedures and Auditing written Safe Systems of Work (SSoW) Procedures for the site
  • Carry out and support management team with Accident, near miss and RIDDOR reports and actions
  • Ensure PPE requirements for site are established and maintained.
  • Management of site inspections and audits including external mandatory inspections.
  • Consult and communication with the business support segments on HSE matters.
  • Advance and promote a sustainability and health & safety culture in the workplace.
  • Assist in Auditing programs, including internal and external audits.
  • Monitor and maintain client contract HSE and Risk dashboards.
  • Ensure security access for site and DBS for staff are maintained
  • Assist with developing the overall Hard FM Training Budget.
  • All other duties as reasonably required by Senior Leaders of the business from time to time.

 

 

The Ideal Candidate

Essential: 

  • NeBosh Qualified and Certified Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 experience
  • Experience of working within Hard FM or Engineering environment.
  • Construction Design Management (CDM) knowledge
  • High level of communication both verbal and written.
  • Forward thinking and solution orientated mind set.
  • Excellent IT skills, inclusive of Microsoft 365 and Power BI.
  • Confident with dealing with difficult stakeholders.
  • Accustomed to managing various deadlines, reactively and proactively.
  • Accountable in your role, and the development of the role. 

Desirable:

  • Previous experience within a Health Service context
  • Demonstrating maturity in working with Hard FM groups
  • Any specialist knowledge relevant to the health care environment.
  • Computer Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) systems familiar. 

 

Package Description

£39,000pa to £45,000pa + excellent bonus and benefits package

Location: Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust

Permanent

Work Pattern – 40 hrs pw Monday to Friday 7am to 4pm with flexibility
