Head of Technical Services

Job Introduction

We are keen to speak with an experienced Head of Technical Services to lead on a new account within Sodexo Universities for the University of Greenwich.

This is a lead management role which will see you maintain a full oversight and accountability of the building services and operational performance of the University contract. You’ll ensure that all technical services of the contract are delivered to an exceptional standard covering all contractual and statutory targets.

A big focus of this role will be to monitor and mentor site-based staff of varying levels of technical delivery experience so you will need to people focused as well as commercially/technically.

Role Responsibility

  • Ensure Technical hard services delivery is both legislatively and contractually compliant across the portfolio
  • Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety legislation and Company/Client Health & Safety practices and procedures.
  • Liaising with the Technical Services Team to ensure there is standardization across the contract.
  • Ensure the contracts are “audit ready” with quality documented evidence of compliance.
  • Facilitate site visits and audits with account directors / account leads; generate action plans with roles and responsibilities clearly defined. Manage plans to close out.
  • Liaise with and escalate issues to senior management in accordance with escalation processes
  • Assist with the review of plant and system performance, highlighting solutions in unsatisfactory areas.
  • Assist sites with the management and performance of specialist sub contractors.
  • Assist in the preparation of local operational procedures, emergency and contingency plans to achieve best working practices and demonstrate continuous improvement.
  • Assist with overseeing Hard Services employee and contractor/supplier activities and ensure all safety aspects are managed and monitored in accordance with site procedures and requirements.
  • To assist and develop succession plans within the Hard Services team, continuously motivate the team by coaching, assessing, developing and maximising individual potential
  • Operate Sodexo QA procedures and maintain clear and legible records as required under ISO 9001 – 2008.
  • Assist with ensuring that staff are appropriately trained and competent.
  • Liaise with SO Technical Services to provide technical assistance to the contracts as required in relation to maintenance planning, implementation and life cycle.
  • Assist with and provide technical support as may be required for project work.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Maximo or similar management systems
  • Knowledge and understanding of contracts and commercial issues.

The Ideal Candidate

Essential

  • Minimum of HNC / HND / Degree in Electrical/Mechanical/Building Services Engineering
  • Engineering Management experience and a track record of delivering performance/service improvement to meet contractual targets
  • Experience of Data Centre support and service provision.
  • Ability to advise, negotiate and influence at all levels
  • Experience of Maximo or similar management systems and processes
  • Ability to mentor, direct and support contract based staff with varying degrees of hard services knowledge.
  • Build sound and supportive positive relationships at all levels

Desirable

  • Experience of managing a similar sized organisation and working within the FE/Higher / Education / Universities Sector
  • Experience of managing and delivering improvements through the supply chain engineering service contracts
  • Facility Management experience covering administrative, contractual and financial aspects of a facilities management contract. 
  • Practical knowledge of word processing and spreadsheets
  • Excellent, clear and confident written skills, presentation skills and report writing
  • Practical knowledge of CAFM systems, e.g., Maximo or Concept 500 SQC or equivalent
  • Effective people management skills in terms of performance management, teamwork, motivation, delegation and discipline are essential
  • Actively implements best practices and continuously reviews to improve service, creates a continuously improve work ethic.
