Job Introduction

HMP Addiewell is a maximum-security prison, with a strong and concerted focus on learning not to reoffend, relevant skills training and employability. We work with all areas of the wider community to ensure residents have the best possible chance of becoming contributing citizens upon release. Addiewell opened in 2008 and has become an integral part of the Scottish Prison Service estate earning much praise from (amongst others) HMCIP, for its innovation, use of technology, strong partnership working and the “can do” culture we foster.

Within the role of Head of Residence, you will provide direction and leadership to our residential teams, maximising interaction with individuals during their period in custody; ensuring activities impact positively on their life in prison, and that they use their time purposefully and constructively in order to effectively engage in the prison regime. In doing so, you will oversee the effectiveness of supporting residents whilst in custody through formal and informal consultation, availability of personal officer support and effective complaint handling.

You will oversee the day-to-day management of residents in our care, ensuring areas of residence are effectively maintained, managed and provide a safe, secure and decent environment for them to reside in, and for staff to work in. In doing so, you will oversee the management activity of both Sodexo and Scottish Prison Service strategic priorities, including relevant legislative requirements pertaining to a custodial environment.
