Environmental Services Operative

Job Introduction

The primary aim of the job is to provide routine daily waste services at the client’s site. The secondary aim is to support the effluent water testing performed at the onsite lab.

 

  • Performing onsite waste operations
    • Collection, storage and loading of wastes
    • General waste management duties
    • Correct application of relevant site SOP’s in relation to waste management
  • Performing waste water testing
    • Collection of water samples
    • Use of water testing equipment in a l environment
 

Role Responsibility

All work must be carried out to ensure compliance to meet all administration standards set by Sodexo, client and governing bodies, especially GXP (mainly GMP – Good Manufacturing Practice, in accordance with the MHRA’s Rules and Guidance for Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Distributors). Waste is a GMP service provided to the client by Sodexo.

Main duties:

  • Collection of ad hoc waste jobs on site using FLT and on foot
  • Routine daily waste container collections and exchanges.
  • Daily waste area checks, cleaning and monitoring
  • Supervise the loading/unloading of bulk tankers
  • Load waste transporters and standing trailers
  • Ordering the exchange of skips and trailers when required
  • Providing waste management advice to personnel on site
  • Following site SOP’s, Permit and TSA conditions.
  • Supervision and preparation for visiting contractors who are supporting waste management and effluent services.
  • Collection of effluent samples
  • Analysis of effluent samples
  • Support the running of the effluent testing lab
  • Providing cover for Waste Coordinator during periods of absents and leave
 

The Ideal Candidate

Essential

  • Demonstrate competency either through experience or academic achievement with regards to waste management
  • Desire to grow in the roll and develop new skills
  • Ability to work without supervision as well as part of a team
  • Willingness and aptitude to be trained in any skills gap & positive approach to learning in role
  • Good awareness and understanding of health, safety and environmental issues
  • Self-motivated and flexible approach to role
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with customers, clients, and staff
  • Good time management and organisational skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure

Desirable

  • Previous work in the chemical industry or a waste management environment.
  • FLT trained
  • Driving licence
