Job Introduction

HMP Northumberland are recruiting for an Electrician to join the Maintenance Team. If you have experience working as an electrician and enjoying working as part of a team, this could be a great opportunity for you.

As an electrician, you will be responsible for installation, testing, examination and maintenance within the prison.

We are committed to supporting people to change their lives for the better and lead law-abiding lives.HMP Northumberland offers a variety of initiatives and programmes to help residents engage within the prison’s rehabilitative culture. This includes various educational and vocational qualifications, as well as a variety of opportunities for residents to learn new skills within our workshops and industries departments. We have textile, engineering and electrical workshops and can offer prisoners experience in horticulture, market gardens, cleaning, waste management and laundry services on site.

Being over 4 miles in circumference, the prison is a vast space with exceptionally kept plantation and currently houses over 1300 residents with a range of sentence terms.

Role Responsibility

  • Install, maintain and repair electrical control, wiring, and lighting systems.
  • Perform general electrical maintenance.
  • Inspect circuit breakers and other electrical components.
  • Troubleshoot electrical issues using appropriate of testing devices.
  • Repair and replace equipment, electrical wiring, or fixtures.
  • Follow National Electrical Code state and local building regulations.
  • Confer with customers, engineers, and others to discuss existing or potential engineering products or projects.
  • Ensuring that installation and operations conform to standards and customer requirements.
  • Ensuring compliance with specifications, codes, or customer requirements by directing or coordinating installation, manufacturing, construction, maintenance, documentation, support or testing activities.
  • Writing reports and compiling data regarding existing and potential electrical engineering projects and studies.
  • Preparing specifications for purchases of electrical equipment and materials.

The Ideal Candidate

Essential 

  • I.E.E. 17th Edition Wiring Regulations
  • Completion of electrician apprenticeship.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Electrical system and maintenance and repair knowledge.
  • Previous proven experience working as an electrician 
  • Personally motivated with initiative, flexibility, and innovation to continually develop skills.

Desirable 

  • I.E.E. 18th Edition Wiring Regulations

Package Description

£26,255.12 per annum

Excellent benefits including free onsite parking, shopping discounts, pension and 28 days holiday (inclusive of bank holidays)

You will be required to work on a call out rota approximately every 15 weeks.
