Role Responsibility

Package Description

Purpose of your role:

 

Provide a quality food and beverage service and welcoming environment in the Staff Common room; be personable and flexible to cover the variety of duties. 

 

To assist the catering department daily with counter cleaning and service displays.  

 

 

Common room responsibilities:

 

  • Set up hot and cold beverages and food appropriate to the service, and serve or provide a self service set.

 

  • Manage and replenish food and beverage stocks, tea, biscuits, milk, sugars etc, for all services ensuring all food and beverages meet the King’s College HACCP system standards.

 

  • Maintain bar and confectionary stocks in liaison with the Head of Common Room.

 

  • Clean and store all Common room utensils and equipment and ensure that there is ample equipment to maintain the service throughout the day.

 

  • Clean and maintain beverage dispensing equipment to the manufacturer’s instruction standard, and report any faults to the Catering Manager.

 

  • Clean and maintain the common room kitchen and lounge, change linens as required, report any equipment faults to the Catering Manager.

 

  • Order cleaning and janitorial supplies from in house supplies as required.

 

  • Liaise with the Head of the Common Room in regard to extra Common Room services or events and assist with cash-and-carry orders, payment when they are required on delivery. 

Catering department responsibilities:

 

  • Store and/or replenish stocks for breakfast and lunch services: fruit, breakfast cereals, sauces and condiments etc.
  • Check and refill table condiments as required.   
  • Polish hot and cold service counters
  • Design and display daily link garnishes.
  • Design and display static food displays and regularly replenish. 

 

 

Health & Safety and legislative responsibilities:

 

  • You must at all times operate safe plant.
  • You must at all times operate safe systems.
  • You must maintain a high standard of appearance uniform where provided is to be worn in full
  • You must carry out all duties to the basic hygiene and kitchen prerequisites hand book standard.
  • Comply with the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work regulations
  • Take reasonable care for the Health and safety of yourself and colleagues and to co-operate with the school in ensuring that Health and Safety responsibilities are carried out.
  • Comply with the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act Regulations 1974

 

Occasional Duties:   

  • Waiting on or bar service day time duties to accommodate external events.
  • Basic food preparation duties; fresh fruit platters etc.
  • Evening or weekend waiting on and bar services:
  • Prize Day assist with the VIP luncheon at the Headmaster’s House.
  • Prize Day week assist with the Common Room party.
  • Common Room Pimms service for the prep Schools cross country annual event.
  • Common Room Wine-tasting evenings; assist with the setting and clearing of the service.
  • Extra drinks services as required to accommodate guests of the Common Room.   

     

    Training responsibilities: 

  • Attend training courses and coaching in or out of house as appropriate for your position and your personal development. 
  • Attend staff meeting as required.

 

  • Contribute and be active in King’s colleges staff appraisal system

Hours of Work:

 

7.30 am to 12.00 Monday to Friday (20 hrs per week). 

 

Term time only (42 working weeks = 33 weeks of term plus ½ terms (3 weeks) and week either side of holidays (6 weeks)
