Assistant Catering Manager

A fantastic opportunity has become available for an Assistant Catering Manager to support the delivery of catering services within the Boarding Houses of Eton College. Working closely with the Catering Manager, you will support the boarding house kitchens to deliver food services to approx. 55 boys per house each day.

Role Responsibility

  • Efficient support of 25 boarding house catering services, including the service of breakfast, morning break, lunch, dinner for up to 55 students per house and ensuring high standards of quality and customer service.
  • Work alongside the Catering Manager, House Masters, Dames to ensure the smooth, efficient and effective catering service in the Boarding Houses.  In addition to act as cover for the Catering Manager.
  • Work with kitchen teams to ensure all food is prepared and served fresh and to a high standard as per service agreement, Company and College policies and within current legislation.
  • Work with the Catering Manager to plan and deliver termly staff training and to identify and promote talent within the teams where possible.
  • Manage the rotas for each house for both kitchen staff and service staff and supporting the Catering Manager to ensure each house has adequate staffing cover.
  • Ensure consistency in the quality of menus and standards across the Boarding Houses are maintained at all times.
  • Effectively work across both Sodexo and Eton College teams to build profitable long term relationships and support the college objectives.
  • Implement and maintain the Statutory and Company standards of hygiene, health and safety and take any action as is necessary.
     

The Ideal Candidate

  • Strong craft/chef background and a flair & passion for good food as well as practical experience of volume catering
  • Previous experience in an Assistant Catering Manager or supervisory role, ideally with experience of boarding houses or multi-site operations
  • Experience within the catering industry preferably from hotels, independent schools or equivalent
  • Tenacity, flexibility, diplomacy and patience
  • A proven ability to manage and influence multiple stakeholders – Eton clients, House Master, Dames, boys in a boarding environment
  • Able to problem solve, find creative solutions, be proactive in identifying risks and take mitigating action with the other stakeholders.
  • Good financial awareness
  • Good administrative skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Knowledge of Food Hygiene and Health & Safety
