Prison Gardens Vocational Officer

As Vocational Gardens Officer, you will provide a safe environment which promotes dignity and opportunity for all offenders and the gender specific needs of women prisoners working in the gardens area.

Prroviding leadership to your group and be responsible for allthe gardens areas within the prison, responsible for managing of safe working practices and the training of the use of equipmentfor all prisoners in your care.

You'll devlop and expand the gardens team by training and aiming towards accredited qualifications.

Role Responsibility

  • Deliver the agreed performance and contractual targets for the gardens areas, on time and within budget.
  • Ensure compliance with agreed PSIs and PSOs
  • Train all prisoners in the use of all the mechanical and electrical equipment required to complete their daily duties.
  • Maintain the required number of prisoners assigned to the task and ensure purposeful activity hours are maintained.
  • Work closely with other staff to ensure that ad hoc gardening requirements meet  the needs of the business and the needs of Bronzefield
  • Be an active member of the vocational team to attend team huddles and meetings where appropriate,
  • Provide relevant reports to the required area on time to regime monitoring wages tool and security check sheets
  • Resonsible for the completion of Datix for any accidents that may occur in the gardens area.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience in prisons; security clearance to SC level; PCO badged.
  • Technical knowledge of relevant prison legislation, PSOs, Standards, inspection and audit processes.
  • A strong and consistent moral compass and boundries and the ability to provide value based leadership (consistent demonstration of Sodexo values).
  • Has a concern for prisoner care that reflects Sodexo values and principles
  • Demonstrates a commitment to personal development and the development of others
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a approachable personality
  • Flexible and able to operate as a team member.
  • A knowledge of the security and accountability of tools that are assigned to the gardens area.
  • Knowledges of  relevant health and safety leistation and safe systems of work.
  • Be able to work with prisoners with a rangs of cultural and faith backgrounds.

Desirable

  • Previous leadership experience in a custodial environment
  • Residential knowledge and experience.
  • Knowledge or qualificvations in gardening landscaping and botany or hortricultural skills or have the desire to gain such a qualifucation
  • Effective IT Skills.
  • Project management and Risk management skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement in a politicised environment

Package Description

£20,832.72 +£279.91 London weighting recurring and benefits including free meals, parking, subsidised Gym membership, Pension, Group discount scheme etc
