Teacher and Assessor of Cookery

Job Introduction

HMP Forest Bank are recruiting for a Teacher and Assessor of Cookery.

You will be required to teach cookery courses ensuring all evidence is covered in both theoretical and practical elements of the course. You will maintain teaching and delivery to OFSTED standards and deliver RSPH Food Hygiene certificate on the request of the Education Manager or the Catering Manager.

Sodexo Justice Services delivers custodial and community rehabilitation services that challenge offending behaviour, protect the public and offer individuals the opportunity to change their lives for the better. We deliver the total operation of five prisons within England, Scotland and Wales and own six Community Rehabilitation Companies in partnership with crime reduction charity Nacro.

Role Responsibility

  • Design and deliver courses in Catering such as NVQs and Food Hygiene that will equip learners to apply for employment opportunities on release
  • Teach classes of up to fifteen learners ensuring that a high standard of preparation, delivery feedback and marking is maintained.
  • Make the courses interesting, current, valid and engaging so that difficult to reach learners are motivated to succeed.
  • Complete education and prison paper work on time and to a high standard.
  • Achieve excellent success rates in own courses.
  • Promote own courses to the wider prison where necessary.
  • Be responsible for keeping own classroom tidy and clean with up to date displays.
  • Deliver theory in class room settings and practice cookery methods and techniques in the main kitchen area
  • Work as a team with the education department and in particular kitchen’s staff.
  • Open to the idea of production kitchen and Barista qualifications in addition to Food Preparation and Cooking and be able to adapt qualifications as they are demanded.
  • Motivate learners to complete their evidence portfolios to a high standard.
  • Assess work and complete quality assurance paper work to a high standard
  • Work towards centre accredited status.

The Ideal Candidate

  • NVQ level 3, equivalent  or above in Cooking
  • Relevant teaching qualification
  • Experience of working successfully with accrediting and regulatory bodies
  • A thorough understanding of vocational courses in the area of Catering and Hospitality
  • A proven track record of success in the delivery of cooking qualifications.

Package Description

37.5 hours per week (8am - 4.30pm)

Up to £24,420
