Site Assistant/Caretaker

Job Introduction

We currently have an opportunity for a Site Assistant/Caretaker to join our team. This is a great opportunity for a customer focused individual to join a world leading food and facilities management company, which can offer unrivalled opportunities for career progression.

Role Responsibility

  • Open, lock-up and secure the site and buildings daily as required
  • Carry out a range of daily, weekly and monthly checks, audits and readings as directed
  • Ensure that the site is safe for all users throughout the day; attend emergency situations and make areas safe by carrying out emergency repairs and cleaning tasks as required
  • Support the Cleaning Team by carrying out spot cleaning and other cleaning duties including removal of graffiti, replenishment of consumables and cleaning of high-level internal areas, grilles, vents, diffusers and the like
  • Carry out litter picking, sweeping and emptying of external bins as directed
  • Clear gutters, gullies and drains as required to ensure they are free from organic growth and debris
  • Maintain waste storage areas in a tidy and safe condition
  • Clear leaves, ice, snow and debris from external areas as directed
  • Spread salt to paths, roads and playground areas where icy weather conditions are expected
  • Carry out minor repairs and maintenance tasks commensurate with skill and ability including patch painting and repairs to furniture and equipment
  • Receive and distribute goods and materials as required by the Academy
  • Set out, put away and relocate furniture and equipment for functions, meetings, assemblies and other school activities
  • Support the management of  traffic on site at the beginning and end of each school day
  • Support the operation of fire practice, evacuation drills and emergency situations in conjunction with the Academy
  • Carry out a broad range of Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) tasks as directed, accurately recording findings and escalating issues, faults and required remedial works promptly
  • Report any hazards, unsafe situations or unsafe behaviours to line manager and/or Academy as appropriate
  • Respond in a helpful and professional manner to requests by users for directions, information and assistance
  • Supervise and accompany visitors, contractors and staff working on-site as directed
  • Play an active role in reducing environmental impact of waste through correct disposal of all waste streams including reusing and recycling wherever possible
  • Wear appropriate uniform, PPE, clothing and identification at all times
  • Keep accurate records of jobs and tasks completed and materials used
  • Observe Client and company rules at all times
  • Observe all Client and company Statutory Fire and Health & Safety Regulations and promote good safety habits and methods of work
  • Attend training courses, toolbox talks and the like as required to keep up-to-date with legislation and company policy and procedures
  • To perform any other reasonable task requested by the line manager

  • Experienced in the use of commercial cleaning and site maintenance equipment
  • Ability to lift and carry items safely
  • Ability to follow and comply with instructions on equipment and/or materials usage
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members and customers
  • Ability to prioritise work to maintain high standards
  • Ability to carry out health and safety checks and maintain relevant records
  • Willingness to undertake training and professional development as required
  • Awareness of Health and Safety in a working environment
  • Resilient and robust with a positive outlook
  • Willingness to work outside of normal hours if required
