Semi Skilled Maintenance Operative

Job Introduction

HMP Northumberland are recruiting for a Semi Skilled Maintenance Operative to carry out maintenance and repairs to ensure the safe and efficient running of the establishment.

This includes various educational and vocational qualifications, as well as a variety of opportunities for residents to learn new skills within our workshops and industries departments. We have textile, engineering and electrical workshops and can offer prisoners experience in horticulture, market gardens, cleaning, waste management and laundry services on site..

Being over 4 miles in circumference, the prison is a vast space with exceptionally kept plantation and currently houses over 1300 residents with a range of sentence terms.

Role Responsibility

  • Work alongside the fire maintenance technician to carry out essential daily planned maintenance of the safety systems in place
  • Carry out general maintenance and repairs to ensure the safe and efficient running of the establishment.
  • Carry out general fire maintenance repairs and schedules, general maintenance, planned preventative facilities tasks and project work as directed in order to ensure that operational support is provided to the establishment at all times.
  • Ensure that all works are undertaken in a safe manner in accordance with good practice and current legislation.
  • Supervise prisoner working parties, where applicable.
  • All work to be carried out to the relevant trade standards
  • Ensure Health and Safety policies are adhered to at all times.
  • Managing compliance including standard operating procedures, purchasing, statutory requirements (health and safety).
  • Comply with all Company & Client policies, site rules and statutory regulations relating to Health & Safety, safe working practices, hygiene, cleanliness and COSHH. This will include your awareness of any specific hazards in your work area

  • Understanding of safety rules
  • Understanding of health and safety regulations
  • Excellent time management
  • Efficiency and discretion
  • Held a similar role previously or has the skills set required for the position

Desirable

  • Floor laying skills
  • Semi-Skilled Plumbing

Package Description

£20,600 per annum

Excellent benefits including free onsite parking, shopping discounts, pension and 28 days holiday

You will be required to work on a call out rota approximately every 15 weeks.
